We Should Be GM's:
Toronto Blue Jays
Darin Ruf 2012 Reading Phillies- .316/1.023, 88 R, 145 H, 31 DBL, 35 HR, 95 RBI.He leads all of minor league baseball in homeruns, is 3rd in OPS, and is close to cracking the top 10 in RBI. He's done all this in the Double-A Eastern League that is regarded as having very fair parks (not hitter friendly like the Texas League or Pacific Coast League). Ruf is not considered a "prospect" because he lacks "tools". Tools are great, they helped build Noah's ark, but I could give two squirts of pee about tools when it comes to players, just as long as they produce. I'm not stupid, I understand that toolsy prospects have a higher ceiling than non-toolsy guys like Tyler Cloyd or Darin Ruf. However, it sucks that they get pushed aside because of this. You don't know what you have until you test it out. In other words, give the dude a shot. Maybe that's what the Phillies have in mind, since Ruf has recently been moved to left field, a position tha...

On the latest edition of Phillies Nation TV, I’m off, so Corey and the rest of the PN crew takes over.
Corey’s brother, Eric Seidman, also our newest contributor, joins the program to discuss the NL Wild Card picture and if the Phillies have a chance.
Jay Floyd stops by to talk about Darin Ruf and Tyler Cloyd and whether or not they’ll ever see the light of day in Philly.

He did it again!
Phillies minor-leaguer Darin Ruf has homered for the 37th time this season for the Reading Phillies. The 26 year-old first baseman broke Ryan Howard's single-season home run record at Reading this evening.
Ruf has been on a tear all season, but in August he has been absolutley unstoppable. In 27 games this month, Ruf is hitting...
PHILADELPHIA -- Lost in the heroics and good fortune from Cliff Lee, the Phillies hard-luck left-hander who went a whole calendar year between wins at Citizens Bank Park before his seven sharp innings on Sunday, was the ongoing quiet yet productive performance of a veteran utility infielder who has taken the reins at third base for the Phillies in August. Lee was only able to drive...

He did it again. Last night Phillies (prospect?) Darin Ruf hit his 36th home run of the season for AA Reading. The Reading Phillies record of 37 is held by Ryan Howard.
Earlier I wrote about the skepticism. Is Ruf the next Ryan Howard? Or is he the next Matt Rizzotti? As time has gone on, people (including myself) are getting less skeptical...
Jimmy Rollins started the ball rolling in training camp for the Philadelphia Phillies. That 2007 challenge led to the playoffs, but what does the 2013 version have in store?
TAL’S HANDY CAPS
I will publish after every game that is not washed out. I will have many summer-long highlights of puzzle pieces, especially important after drubbings and defeats...
Although he said he wasn't aware of it, Sunday was Cliff Lee's last chance to get a win at Citizens Bank Park before coming up on an anniversary he'd rather not hear about. He hadn't won at home since Sept. 5, 2011, a span of 13 straight starts. But on Sunday Lee collected his first win in South Philly in 356 days. He pitched seven sharp innings, holding Washington...
Cliff Lee of the Philadelphia Phillies is among the best pitchers in the majors. What west coast hurlers are in that group? The Apocalyptic Horsemen Stats are in my daily coverage.
TAL’S HANDY STATS
I am alternating a game-day 2012 ERA For The NL East and a 2012 ERA For The MLB 5. See link section below. In each publication, the number after the title will...
Phillies Left-hander Cliff Lee gets first home win in nearly a year.
It feels good to win! Sunday, the Phillies completed their sweep of the first place Washington Nationals and also ended the home losing streak of Cliff Lee. Lee who pitched solid the entire game also knocked in the game’s first run. By the seventh inning you could feel Lee’s first home win in nearly a year coming...
No one disputes that Michael Schwimer wasn't pitching well for the Phillies lately, allowing six earned runs in his last 6 2/3 innings. The Phillies believe he just wasn't getting the job done, but Schwimer believes he's hurt.
The Phils finish the sweep of the Nats as Cliff Lee wins his first start at the Bank as the Phils defeat the Nationals, 4-1.
The Phils finally broke a 0-0 tie in the fifth as, with a runner on second, and with one man out, Cliff Lee helps his own cause by hitting an RBI double to center, knocking in Kevin Frandsen, who had started the inning off with a single, then reached second...
The trades of Shane Victorino and Hunter Pence, along with the waiver of Joe Blanton, tells you all you need to know about the 2012 Phillies.
They be sellers.
Plus September is at hand.
Time to find out who can play and who can’t.
John Mayberry Jr. was walking his way out the door when he got hot, clouding the picture.
Nate Schierholtz, who knows if he can play since he got hurt...
The Mets take a TWO-GAME WINNING STREAK on the road with them as they begin their last big road trip of the season, a nine-gamer tonight at Citizens Bank Park against the rival Philadelphia Phillies. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and the game can be seen on SNY or heard, as always, on WFAN 660AM. Join the conversation on Twitter by following @dailystache or yours truly...
For the Washington Nationals, heading to Philadelphia this past weekend and being swept by the Phillies probably wasn’t something they considered likely. The Nats were facing Kyle Kendrick the first game, and though they had to match up against Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee the next two games, they put out Gio Gonzalez and Jordan Zimmermann against them. Sometimes, in a 162-game season...
