In the latest rundown of developmental notes, we’ll take a glance at some top performers, several guys who aren’t doing too well, a couple sidelined prospects and a group of former Phillies minor leaguers… The Hot List-  Lakewood pitcher Nic Hanson Lakewood righty Nic Hanson has not been scored upon in two outings (11 total innings) since moving from the BlueClaws’ bullpen to their starting rotation. A 16th round pick in last year’ draft out of Golden West College, Hanson, 21, has a 1-0 record with a save and a 3.38 ERA in eight games. Class A Advanced Clearwater outfielder Cameron Perkins has been performing extremely well this month.  In 10 games, the 22-year-old has posted a .385 average with six doubles, a triple, a homer and six RBI.  Perkins was selected in the 6th round of the 2012 draft out of Purdue University. Caught looking! Mitch Williams Twitter, Ryan Howard strikeouts and fire Sam Perlozzo

I like to take a look at the in-depth numbers behind the scenes for my web sites, including Macho Row. From time to time I think I woudl like to share some of the most interesting search results leading readers to this little piece of the Phillies blogosphere with you. Maybe you will find some of them as amusing as I do. Here is a look at the most recent top searches bringing...

Phillies Must Do The Right Thing And Sell

There has been plenty of buzz lately about retooling the Phillies, including a piece today in the Daily News from Dave Murphy. The Phillies have gotten older, are less productive than their glory days, and as a team no longer work. Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins, Carlos Ruiz, Michael...

Phillies Sign 17-Year Old Kamara from Germany

Photo: power-showcase.com According to Stefan Muller of Mister Baseball, the Phillies have signed 17-year old German powerhouse, center fielder Julsan Kamara to a seven year, minor league contract. Kamara stands 6’4, weighs 192 lbs, and is considered to be among the country’s top baseball prospects. Most recently, Kamara was Germany’s representative in the Power Showcase Home...

Phillies' Mike Adams misses series finale with back spasms

The Philadelphia Phillies had to turn to Jonathan Papelbon on back-to-back days because of back spasms Mike Adams experienced during batting practice yesterday.  Papelbon had pitched Saturday and would likely have been unavailable under normal circumstances yesterday.  He pitched in the eighth in the ninth, recording a five out save. Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer...

D-backs look to stay hot as Phillies turn to Lee

The Diamondbacks are riding their longest winning streak of the season. It's been nearly six years since they posted three consecutive victories against the Phillies. They'll try to change that Saturday night against Cliff Lee, who will make just his second career start at Chase Field. Undefeated since a 1-5 skid, Arizona (21-15) is looking to notch its longest win streak...

Philadelphia Phillies: 2013 ERA for the MLB 5 at game 37

Most staffs have mixed results from replacements for healing starters, but the Philadelphia Phillies with Tyler Cloyd will have a new question mark between 2 aces. How have the top west coast teams fared with temporary arms in their rotation? TAL’S HANDY STATS WELCOME, NEWCOMERS: I will publish the 2013 ERA for both the NL East and the MLB 5 periodically. The number of games...

Phillies 3, Diamondbacks 1

With his team struggling to score runs behind him, Cliff Lee pitched in himself. Lee threw seven scoreless innings and helped out with three sacrifice bunts as the Philadelphia Phillies beat Arizona 3-1 Saturday night, ending the Diamondbacks' five-game winning streak. ''It feels good to bunt a guy over and watch him score,'' said Lee, who said he hadn't...

Let’s start looking at minor leaguers, NOW

As I watch the Sunday afternoon Game between the Phillies and Diamondbacks I can only imagine what a difference it could make to start bringing more position players up to the big club. We had to endure the 1st inning screw up by Eric Kratz when he was in a chase down to third base and held onto the ball to long, result the runner slid back to third and was safe. Next two batters...

Ryan Howard Singles in Extras; Kendrick Continues Excellence in 4-2 Mother's Day Win

The pink cleats, arm bands, balls, and bats were all in play once again, as the Phllies took on the Diamondbacks on Mother's Day to close out a four-game series. The matchup pitted Phillies starter Kyle Kendrick against former Athletic Brandon McCarthy. While the Fightins looked to leave Arizona with...

After Early Rally, Phils Bats go Silent In Loss

The Phils were swingin’ well early. Unfortunately they forgot games are nine innings. (Photo: AP) One pitch. That’s all it took for Mike Adams to serve up a line drive home run to Miguel Montero in the eighth inning of a 2-2 game. The bomb down the rightfield line would be the difference in tonight’s game, as the Phils dropped their second straight to Arizona and third straight...

Late Heroics: Montero's homer in 8th downs Phils

Jimmy Rollins homered to lead off the game, but couldn't play hero as he grounded out with the tying run on third to end the Phillies' 3-2 loss to the D'Backs. The Phillies entered Friday night's game with 20 losses on the season. Seven of them were charged to relief...

The Phils and Zambrano? Ugh.

Zambrano? I’d rather take my chances with Cloyd, Biddle, Morgan, Martin, Pettibone, Garner, Cochran, Miner… The Phils don’t have a great deal of promising talent in the minor leagues right now and they are particularly thin in the outfield. It goes almost without saying that they lack a single high-profile prospect, despite Jesse Biddle single-handedly crusading against that...

Three is Enough: Phils halt losing streak behind Lee

Cliff Lee picked off A.J. Pollock in the third inning. Lee picked up the win pitching seven shutout innings. Pollock struck out with the tying run on second to end the game. In his last start on Monday, Cliff Lee was asked to play stopper. He did just that. Saturday...
