Unfortunately, this 'stache will not be on display at GABP in '12
In case you missed it, the Redlegs made a couple minor moves earlier this week. Let's catch you up on those shall we?
A swap with the Sox...
On Tuesday the club traded minor league 2B Jose Castro to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for cash (amount undisclosed).
The 25-year old split time between Double-A Carolina and Triple-A Louisville last season where he batted .306 with no home runs, 30 RBIs and 32 runs scored.
Castro was originally drafted by the New York Mets in the 32nd round of the 2005 Draft.
Southpaw shown the door...
According to this report by mlbtraderumors.com, the Reds have released LHP Clay Zavada. This comes as no surprise since the 27-year old all but vanished near the end of the preseason...with his name appearing nowhere on any roster within the organization.
Cincinnati inked Zavada to a minor league contract over the offseason, which included a non-roste...

What folks are saying about Phillips extension
"I don't think it's a terrible deal for the Reds. Phillips is a good player who's durable and a fan favorite with a big personality. It does create an impetus to win now, before the Votto and Phillips deals potentially become a financial albatross. Hey, if they win now or next year, they can worry about 2016 in 2016." -David Schoenfield of ESPN.com's...
Simon's walk-off wild pitch costs Reds the opener
Ludwick's two-RBI single tied it in the ninth.
The offense once again stalled for the Cincinnati Reds (3-4), as they scored no runs until the ninth inning, though those runs did extend the game. Gio Gonzalez outpitched Mat Latos, limiting Cincinnati to just two hits while striking out seven Reds in seven innings. Latos made his second start for the Reds, but came up...

Reds Rapid Fire: Phillips Cashes In Too
Here are some quick notes on the Cincinnati Reds, who are off to a 3-4 start to the season.
* It was great to see the team sign Brandon Phillips to a 5-year, $60 million extension (6-years, $72.5 million counting the $12.5 million Phillips is making this year) right on the heels of the huge Joey Votto deal. I honestly thought the team would let Phillips walk after this season, but...
Marshall and Chapman to Solidify the Reds Pen
The Reds went out and got two relievers this year to help out in the back-end of their bullpen, with Francisco Cordero leaving. Those two pitchers were Ryan Madson and Sean Marshall. As I wrote in a previous article, Madson has gone down with Tommy John Surgery and now Sean Marshall will have to take over the closing duties. This puts a lot of pressure on Marshall to succeed because...
Reds avoid Cardinals sweep
[Box Score]
[Cincinnati.com]
I didn’t get to see the first business day special of the year, because I was doing business. The Reds avoided getting swept by their division rivals after getting in a 3-0 hole thanks to a Jon Jay home run off Johnny Cueto.
Cueto didn’t have his best stuff it seemed, but he kept the Reds in the game over the course of five toughly contested innings...
White Sox Home Opener is Here!
In all the years I’ve been a White Sox contributor for the Sportsbank.net there has never been a season where expectations for the team has been lower as the words “new era” and “rebuilding” are frequently associated with the team. As a matter of fact most experts and sports periodicals pick the southsiders to be among the worst teams in the game. So in a year where...
The Response: An Exclusive interview With Castro about Guillen
It took me a few days to track this guy down and convince him it would be good for his career to do this interview. Here I will provide you with the transcript of the interview that no one else could get, the interview that no one has heard, and the interview that every fan of baseball or international politics wants to see. I am of course referring to my exclusive interview with...
Garcia, Cards fall to Reds in first loss of 2012
CINCINNATI (AP) -- Joey Votto tied a career best with four hits and scored the go-ahead run on pinch-hitter Chris Heisey's ninth-inning single, capping a comeback from a three-run deficit and leading the Cincinnati Reds over the St. Louis Cardinals 4-3 Wednesday.
Down 3-0 in the third against Jaime Garcia, the Reds tied the score in the fifth.
Votto doubled off Marc Rzepczynski...

Of course there's an Ozzie Guillen book coming that focuses on his 'management' style
Given Ozzie Guillen's Fidel Castro publicity, expect his book, Ozzie's School of Management: Lessons from the Dugout the Clubhouse, and the Doghouse to fly off shelves. And Chicago Sun-Times writer...

Game delayed by batter's box snafu
The Detroit-Chicago White Sox game was delayed for several minutes in the first inning Friday after Tigers' star Miguel Cabrera complained that the batter's box wasn't the right shape or size.
Before he faced a pitch with two outs in the first inning, Cabrera's back leg was out of the box, and he said something to home plate umpire Adrian Johnson. After a conference...
Thoughts On Last Night's Roller Coaster Win
Last night’s win over the Cincinnati Reds was a lot of fun. It was the kind of night that reminds you why you watch Nationals baseball in the first place. It marked the second consecutive game that the team was able to win as a result of late-inning heroics. It was also the second consecutive game in which a Nats starter pitched an absolute gem, as Jordan Zimmermann followed...
Should Ozzie Guillen Have Been Suspended for His Comments About Fidel Castro?
Miami Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen has been suspended by the team for telling Time Magazine that he “loves” Fidel Castro. Below is Guillen’s quote as it appeared in the online edition of the magazine: “I love Fidel Castro. You know why? A lot of people have wanted to kill Fidel Castro for the last 60...Read the Rest...
Inside The Park Blog: Robin Ventura, Ace Manager by Bradford Doolittle
CHICAGO -- Friday marked Robin Ventura's first home game in uniform as a member of the White Sox since Sept. 20, 1998. He was asked if he remembered his last game at then-Comiskey Park. He didn't. But of course, we can look it up. He went 1 for 3 with a walk against the Red Sox, batting behind Frank Thomas and Albert Belle.
One thing is for sure: The manager's chats...
