Scranton/Wilkes-Barre 1, Buffalo 0

Steve Pearce’s 6th inning home run made all the difference in tonight’s game as it was the only run scored by either side. He also accounted for two of the Yankees’ four hits. Cole Garner and Ramiro Pena were the only two Yankees to manage putting a mark in the hit column. Today’s pitching performance by the Yankees was commendable to say the least. Ramon Ortiz started and went 6.2 innings, allowing just eight hits. He was followed by Juan Cedeno, who recorded three outs during the 7th and 8th innings. Kevin Whelan put the finishing touches on things, recording a four-out save, his 12th of the season.

Richmond 5, Trenton 2

Zoilo Almonte went 3-for-5 with a double, but it wasn’t enough to help the Thunder conquer the Richmond Flying Squirrels. Both Thunder RBI came off the bat of catcher Jose Gil, who went 1-for-3 today. Pitching-wise, Vidal Nuno took the loss, th0ugh continued to maintain a 0.00 ERA with all four runs being unearned. Michael Dubee allowed the fifth and final run during his two innings of work, leaving Lee Hyde to pitch a scoreless 9th.

Lakeland 4, Tampa 0

Nothing went right for Tampa today, who couldn’t find a way to put a crooked number on the scoreboard despite eight hits. The biggest problem came in regards to batting with runners in scoring position – when the Yankees went just 1-for-11 on the day. Asides from a Neil Medchill double, no Yankee hitter managed an extra base hit, though several had singles – and Eduardo Sosa had a pair of them. Caleb Cotham started and got knocked around a little early, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and four walks in just three innings. Most notably in regards to pitching was Mark Montgomery, who again struck out two batters in an inning. This brings him to 37 strikeouts in 23 innings pitched.

Greenvile 3, Charleston 2

Despite a phenomenal performance on the mound by Bryan Mitchell, Charleston lost this one in extra innings. Mitchell tossed six innings, allowing a run on two hits while striking out nine batters.
