Strictly looking at the box score, I would have thought that Freddy Garcia's outing today was an improvement. It's only his third appearance, in which he's coming off major surgery and is only expected to be a fifth starter. He was on a strict pitch count of 45 which is why he didn't finish his third inning of work, but 2.1 innings he allowed two runs on two hits and a walk, which this early in camp is sufficient to me. All I want from a fifth starter is 5-6 innings in which they allow 4-6 runs which gives the team a fighting chance, your not getting six shut out innings from the fifth starter. It appears the coaching staff was also satisfied with Garcia's progress and for those who say what else would they say, just look at the comments after Redding's outing.....Freddy Garcia allowed two runs on two hits in 2.1 innings but drew relatively positive reviews.
