As the 2013 season transitions past the halfway mark, all 30 major league teams must prepare themselves for the summer stretch ahead and eventually the light at the end of the tunnel that is the postseason. Leading up to the start of the season, a number of offseason deals took place as per the usual, a few involving some of the game’s most talented players took place, including the likes of 2012 NL Cy Young Award winner R.A. Dickey and 2010 AL MVP Josh Hamilton. While some of those deals have proved beneficial for teams at this point in the season, others have not been so lucky. Offseason deals, let alone deals made over the course of the season, are often times risky by nature. Although risky, teams hope that their gambles pay off and become positive contributions to the betterment of the team. Unfortunately, luck is not always on the side of big league clubs, as has been witnessed throughout the season. The following is an assessment of the Top 10 offseason deals that have been unsuccessful and can be labeled as “bust” deals up to this point in the season.

  • I only know pitching and pitchers so I can't comment on the hitters in the article.

Short of having serious arm/health problems, pitchers shouldn't have difficulties going from one team to another except when the new time has a very different book or no book on the batters he's facing. Then he's on his own and often throws the wrong pitch or to the wrong location. That's just bad advance scouting, not bad pitching. Once again, presuming he arrives at the new team with all tools intact, he will be just as effective given good field management.
