The New York Yankees need a player that they can rely on at third base. The club also needed someone that does not generate too much negative publicity for their franchise, as Alex Rodriguez has done the past couple of seasons.
They organization decided with the 26th pick in this year’s draft to select their third baseman of the future in Eric Jagielo who played for Notre Dame. He has the ability to hit for power and average like few players available in this draft.
Jagielo is another good looking college bat, he had a very strong season in the Cape Cod League, finishing second in home runs with 13. He was not only a home run hitter in the Cape; he also showed the ability to hit for a high average, as indicated by a .291/.374/.589 triple-slash.
He showed pop to all fields as the ball exploded off his bat. The negative on him was that, he had a tendency to chase pitches.
