The latest rumor in the Yoenis Cespedes sweepstakes has the Miami Marlins offering less than $40 million for the Cuban defector. While Cespedes has yet to negotiate with any other teams, a $40 million price tag seems reasonable for 6 years for the 26 year old. Cespedes can not sign a contract until he is unblocked by OFAC (Office of Foreign Asset Control) and the list of additional teams interested in his services include the Cubs, White Sox, Tigers, and Orioles which could drive up the money he commands. But at $40 million, a team could be getting a steal. If he signs a contract for about $40 million, the team that gets him could be a big winner. Cespedes has hit over .300 every season except one since 2004. He has been among the homerun leaders and in 2011 set a league record in Cuba with 33 homers in only 354 at bats. In a full major league season that would be 56 homeruns. He has had a slugging percentage of .600 or higher in four seasons and his walks to strikeout ratio has imp...

Miami Marlins Receive Encouraging News on Josh Johnson

The Miami Marlins received encouraging news on staff ace Josh Johnson Friday. Johnson threw his first bullpen session Friday and felt no discomfort in his shoulder that kept him out most of the 2011 season. Is Cespedes worth the risk?

Yoenis Cespedes To Leave U.S After Only Visiting The Miami Marlins

Yoenis Cespedes is the hottest free-agent in  baseball right now, and the best. He has dominated everything thrown at home him while playing in the Cuban National League. Last season Cespedes put up a great stat line of .333/.424/.667 with 89 runs, 33 Home Runs, and 99 RBI in only 99 games. Marlins Bring Back Five

Logan Morrison will switch to number five in 2012, a number never worn by a Marlin.   This number is significant to Morrison because it is the number worn by his father’s favorite player — George Brett.   The Marlins since starting play in 1993 have had the number retired to honor the first President in franchise history, Carl Barger. Tragically, Mr. Barger passed...

Yoenis Cespedes will bring more than just power to the Miami Marlins

There are two sides of the coin to any situation. There are yin’s and yang’s to the MLB value of CF Yoenis Cespedes, a Cuban defector who smashed the competition in the World Baseball Classic. Miami Marlins President David Samson has made no secret that the front office desires CF Yoenis Cespedes to be their everyday center fielder and is pursuing a deal aggressively...

Hanley Ramirez + Powerade = Viral Marketing

This had to have been created as a viral marketing scheme by Powerade, there is no way this is a national television commercial. Spanish speaking, Twitter handles, angry superstars coming off a struggling season and awful facial hair, this was made for the Internet. This is just going to lead to more people mocking him on Twitter. [Follow me @TravisHouser]

Miami Marlins: Ozzie Guillen says Yoenis Cespedes no sure thing

It doesn’t appear as though Ozzie Guillen has started scribbling lineups that include Yoenis Cespedes. Guillen on Friday joined Waddle & Silvy for Lunch with a Legend on ESPN 1000 in Chicago. Based on his comments, Guillen won’t be too torn...
