Hot Stove and Hall of Fame Monday is shaping up to be a busy day filled with rumors. According to MLB Network Radio and reported by The Brewers Bar, father of Prince Fielder, Cecil Fielder said after being told by the radio host that they need Prince in Washington DC, “ I think that’s what’s gonna happen, man… personally, I think that’s going to happen.” The two have been estranged for years and after one conversation during the holidays we can not say how in touch Cecil really is with the situation, but a deal between the Nats and Prince makes sense for both sides. The Nats have the pitching, they have the money, and they are trying to build a fan base. Prince wants to get paid and be in a situation that could get him back to the playoffs. The Phillies, Tigers, Angels, and Reds are some of the teams kicking the tires on Kerry Wood. Several websites have said that Wood is close to a deal with Philadelphia but there has been no official announcement...

Wood decision looms for Cubs

Everyone expects Kerry Wood to be the last Chicago Cubs player to be introduced Friday during opening ceremonies of the annual Cubs Convention, just as he was last January after returning from a two-year absence.

Big Questions in Cubdom: Should the Cubs Re-sign Kerry Wood?

In a tumultuous off-season for the Chicago Cubs, there have been a slew of players who have found themselves on the outside looking in with the new regime of Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer doing some serious housecleaning. Aramis Ramirez has departed to Milwaukee, Carlos Pena won’t be brought back by the club, and Carlos Zambrano, Tyler Colvin, Sean Marshall, and Andrew Cashner have...

Nationals Struggling to Sign Fielder Because of Darvish

The Washington Nationals didn't place a bid to purchase the rights Japanese pitcher Yu Darvish this offseason, but he may be the leading factor blocking Prince Fielder's arrival in DC.  Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com is reporting that Darvish and the Texas Rangers, the team that won exclusive negotiating rights to his contract, are not close to a deal. The Rangers paid a ...

More Relief for the Phillies?

The veteran could find himself in the Phillies bullpen in 2012. When Jimmy Rollins inked his contract extension last month, it signaled the end of the shopping season for Ruben Amaro and the Phillies front office. Coupled with the Jonathan Papelbon deal that kicked off the start of free agency, the Phillies have more or less addressed the most pressing issues for the team as they...

Early January Power Rankings

Keep in mind, the offseason isn't over, so these rankings are subject to change before the season starts. 1. Texas Rangers Why they deserve it: They’ve been to the last two consecutive World Series and have the best offense in baseball. They may also add Darvish, Fielder or Madson. Why they don’t deserve it: They have an average rotation at best, lost their...

Holes to Fill (NL)

Congratulations to the newest member of the Hall of Fame Barry Larkin and onwards with the belated second part of my series on how contenders can use the remaining free agents to fill key gaps on their rosters: Miami Marlins Need: Centre field They might not be targeting a new centre fielder, they seem quite content with giving Chris Coughlin the job, but that doesn’t mean...
