8 a.m. ET: Day 3 of the MLB winter meetings were a little slower than Day 2, especially in Boston, but that just means we could be seeing a busier Day 5.
Already in the works is a four-team trade that would send Justin Upton to the Rangers — meaning Texas would not re-sign their star outfielder Josh Hamilton — according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports. The fourth team seems to constantly be changing, but for now, the Mariners would be involved, grabbing Derek Holland in the process.
Whether that deal goes down or not, there are plenty of exciting free agents still out there, including the biggest names of the offseason — Hamilton and Zack Greinke. Cody Ross, Brandon McCarthy, Nick Swisher and Brian Wilson are also still available and there’s some names being thrown around as trade bait, like Asdrubal Cabrera, Wil Myers and James Shields.

NASHVILLE Seattle was one of the suitors when Justin Upton was available at the 2010 winter meetings, and it appears the Mariners interest has not waned.
The D-backs and Mariners met Monday night, sources with knowledge of the D-backs said, with Upton the major piece in discussion.
Seattle general manager Jack Zduriencik has made it clear that ace right-hander Felix Hernandez...
As the baseball winter meetings concluded, two potential blockbusters involving Diamondbacks right fielder Justin Upton were in play, according to a major-league source.
The first involved three teams - Arizona, Texas and Tampa Bay - with Upton going to Texas. The other involved four teams, with Seattle being the fourth.
The Rangers' fervent push for Upton was fueling both...
The Seattle Mariners, Texas Rangers and Cleveland Indians
have all shown “active interest” in Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Justin
Upton, reports Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Arizona Diamondbacks, Cleveland Indians and Texas Rangers worked on a potential three-team trade throughout most of the day Wednesday. However, a major league source with direct knowledge of the talks told The Sports Xchange that a deal is unlikely to get done before the Winter Meetings end Thursday morning at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel and Resort. "...
Texas badly wants Justin Upton, according to major-league sources. Arizona, seeking a shortstop, is focused on Asdrubal Cabrera.
The goals of those two clubs are driving talk of three- and four-team blockbusters at the winter meetings - and also might shed light on what is happening with the two biggest free agents, right-hander Zack Greinke and outfielder Josh Hamilton.
We have a new, crazy rumor in relation to Justin Upton. The Phillies and Diamondbacks are reportedly discussing a swap that would send Upton to the Phillies for oft-traded starting pitcher Cliff Lee (and likely, a giant pile of cash as well). The prevailing logic is that the Diamondbacks would then move Lee to another team in exchange for the shortstop they desire. Other sources...
NASHVILLE Kevin Towers may have started a trend when he united Oakland and Florida in the three-team trade Oct. 20 that brought Heath Bell to the Diamondbacks, got cash relief for the Marlins and sent Chris Young to the As.
Multi is the new normal.
How many trade balls are in the air?
Right now? Towers said late Tuesday afternoon.
Probably more than I have hands. But I have...
The Texas Rangers' GM Jon Daniels seems to be the "driving force" behind the potential four-team blockbuster that was first rumored yesterday. It would appear, the Rangers, the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Cleveland Indians, and the Seattle Mariners are the four teams involved in talks. A deal like this would be a difficult one to pull off, but because of Seattle&...
Update, 4:59 pm: D’Backs beat reporter Nick Piecoro chimed in just after the initial wave and reports that the trade talks are “off base.”
According to a tweet Pedro Gomez of ESPN, the Phillies and Diamondbacks are discussing a Justin Upton for Cliff Lee swap. However, Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports writes Arizona is not actively seeking this deal...
Josh Hamilton, Zack Greinke, and Justin Upton are three pieces of three monster deals that could be on verge of either getting done at any moment, or fall apart at the last minute.
That’s all fine and dandy, but there are plenty of other players, serviceable players that are available that no one talks about.
Look at Randy Choate for example. According to Jon Morosi’s...
The Arizona Diamondbacks did not acquire a starting pitcher or a shortstop at the winter meetings, their stated goals, but it was not for a lack of trying. General manager Kevin Towers was in meetings with possible trade partners until 6:30 a.m. on the final day of the meetings, but nothing materialized. "I would say we are marinating right now," Towers said. Towers...
Going into the final day of the MLB Winter Meetings today, traction on a lot of the bigger names on the free agent and trade markets has hit a near standstill. We've heard about teams having interest in players, players getting close to signing with teams, and trades on the horizon. But nothing has happened quite yet, and it's all because of one team: the Texas Rangers.
With no baseball action to distract us from the countless rumors circling the internet, the MLB winter meetings are like the trade deadline on steroids. It’s just baseball’s best and brightest minds talking shop all day long and us baseball nerds fanatics just soak it all in. Of course, every move that is made, whether it’s major or minor, has an impact on the fantasy universe...
