In this edition of MMO Crossfire, me and Jessep debate Sandy Alderson’s recent appearance on WFAN where he tries to convince Mike Francesa there’s a bright future ahead beginning as soon as 2013. Jessep’s Take… To me, this was the most honest and up front interview I have heard Sandy Alderson give as the GM of the Mets. I think if you go into the interview thinking you refuse to believe anything he says, then you’ll never have a chance to hear what I heard. First and foremost, he sounded like he was having a conversation with somebody he obviously respects. That to me has to be considered when you talk about his “tone.” He sounded like a General Manager who has been through two tough years, and has seen enough and wants to make changes. With regard to the budget, he went on to say what I’ve been saying for the past few days. You have no idea what the bottom line budget is yet, and so many things such as arbitration and trades can impact that. I believe the Jason Bay part was the wo...

Mike Piazza Bobblehead Day, Mets Murdered Row Lineup: Mets Lineup V. Astros - August 25, 2012

The Mets haven't scored more than two runs in seven straight games, and it doesn't look like that will be the case today when RA Dickey and the Mets take on the lowly Astros. Today will also be Mike Piazza Bobblehead Day at GHMP, and fans attending today's contest will receive the bobblehead of the beloved Mets catcher. The entire metsfan73 household will be attending...

McHugh Demoted Back To Buffalo, Flores Raking Again, Verrett Is On A Roll

Updated Post 5:00 PM The Mets demoted right-hander Collin McHugh to Triple-A Buffalo despite a stellar debut on Thursday in which he tossed seven scoreless innings and allowed just two hits and a walk while fanning nine. The Mets needed the roster spot for the return of Jeremy Hefner who was on a three-day paternity leave. McHugh will now have to spend 10 days in the minors...

The David Wright Dilemma

Many Mets fans are hoping and expecting that David Wright will be a member of the New York Mets, after 2013…but don’t count on it. David Wright is going to be faced with a very big decision within the next year. David has gone on the record stating that winning will be a big factor when he ultimately makes his decision. It sounds like he wants to remain a Met, but wants to see...

Prime Nine: New York Mets

Bernie Madoff took the Mets mojo and it might be years before they get it back. Sandy Alderson is certainly a good executive, but it will be tough for even him to get this thing turned around. He certainly kept them in the hunt this season for a few months, but the lack of talent kept them from remaining in the hunt. He has hinted that changes were coming next season...

B-Mets Last Inning Rally Falls Short In 4-3 Loss

A late game rally came up one run short as the Binghamton Mets dropped game two of their series at Hadlock Field against the Portland Sea Dogs by a score of four to three. Gonzalez Germen started his seventeenth game for the B-Mets coming into the contest with a seven and ten record, figuring in the decision in each of his starts on the season.  Germen would figure in this games...

Mets Lower Minors: Vaughn Hits His 22nd, Hansen Struggles In Return, Nido Goes Yard

St Lucie 6, Charlotte 5 Jacob DeGrom had another quality outing, but a strong day at the plate by Cory Vaughn helped seal the S.Mets 6-5 win Key Players Cory Vaughn – 1 for 3, 2-run homer, 1 walk, 1 strikeout. The Mike Francesa Mets Rant

Yesterday afternoon, following the Mets 1-0 to the Rockies, Mike Francesa had an abbreviated version of his “Mike’s On” show on WFAN 660-AM in New York. What followed may have been one of the greatest rants in the history of Sports Radio. One that will go down in history considering the host and station that aired it. Did I agree with most of it, yeah I would say so. But comparing...

Dickey pitches Mets out of skid, beats Astros

NEW YORK -- R.A. Dickey didn't feel at his best nor did he have his best pitch, intimidating developments on their own for most pitchers. But with Dickey's only go-to pitch being a knuckleball, and the fact that his New York Mets teammates have struggled to hit during a six-game losing streak, it would have been easy for Dickey to quickly grow unsettled. Instead, the...

On the Verge of Getting Swept by One of the Worst Teams in the NL….AWESOME

The Mets are on the verge of being swept in a four game series by the Colorado Rockies… That is absolutely miserable. I have nothing else to say, except I am tired of hearing about how amazing Jenrry Mejia has been in Buffalo as a starter.  Bring him up already.  Put him in the rotation and make this team watchable again. This season has been the worst of the previous three because...

Astros and Mets, Kindred Spirits?

They were born the same year, 1962, as expansion teams, and in the Houston Astros’ final National League appearance against the Mets in New York, both teams are playing like expansion teams. Although linked by their entry, the Mets and Astros never developed an substantive rivalry in these 50 years. Playing in different divisions dulled the potential of a rivalry.  Both had long...

McHugh impressive in debut, but Mets lose 5th straight

NEW YORK -- Collin McHugh couldn't get enough help from his offense, and the New York Mets bullpen didn't get the assistance it needed from its defense. So, for the second straight game, a Mets rookie starter dominated the Colorado Rockies, only to have the Rockies push the winning run across against the bullpen. This time, McHugh made an impressive first impression in...
