Justin Morneau has rebounded respectably from two seasons cut short by injuries. Sidelined 14 games by a wrist injury, he has played in 40 of the Minnesota Twins' 56 games this season.

After missing 81 in 2010 and 93 in 2011, that's a major improvement.

Still, Morneau isn't particularly happy. After he drove in the tying and go-ahead runs with a bases-loaded single in the Twins' 4-2 victory at Kansas City on Wednesday, Morneau is batting .237 with 10 homers and 31 RBI.

Asked if he feels he's finally having a normal season, Morneau gave an emphatic, "No," adding there are still four months left.

"I'm starting to get comfortable at first; I feel good running out there every day. Being able to do that is nice," he said. "But I don't know, we're still in last place, and I'm not hitting the way I expect myself to hit, so I wouldn't call it successful. I'm not just content being out there every day. I want to do well. I want to help this team win."

Morneau is batting just .096 (5-for-52) with 17 strikeouts against lefties. Two of those hits were homers, including a two-run shot off the Royals' Will Smith on Monday, but he hasn't drawn a single walk against a southpaw.

"I just don't feel like my approach has been very good," he said. "I've been swinging, I've been chasing a lot of pitches. As soon as they see that, they keep doing it until you force them to throw strikes, and I haven't really forced them to throw strikes."

According to www.fangraphs.com, which uses Major League Baseball-sponsored data to track statistics, Morneau is swinging at 40.5 percent of pitches out of the zone. In 2006, when Morneau won the AL MVP Award, it was 30.7 percent; and in 2010, when he was batting .345 with 18 homers and 53 RBI before being sidelined by a concussion, it was 30.9 percent.

"I don't think the at-bats have been very good," he said, "and I think it has to do with the approach and the pitches I've been swinging at."
