Every now and then the Mets do something so baffling or so mind-boggling that I am prompted to do a post like this which I call the Morning Grind.
Was it just me or did anybody else have a big problem with Jerry Manuel when he substituted Fernando Tatis for Mike Jacobs as a pinch runner in the tenth inning?
It’s not like Tatis is a speed burner or something, and with the score still tied and the game already in extra innings wouldn’t you rather reserve the best bat on your bench so that you can use him as a pinch hitter?
Of course Manuel would then have Cora do just that… Pinch hit… And of course he failed and the Mets would strand two runners and end up losing the game…
If you were going to bring Tatis back from Port St. Lucie for the bench over a more deserving Chris Carter, than why would you waste him at such a critical junction in the game as pinch runner of all things?
