The Washington Nationals may have actually gotten some positive news on the injury front on Thursday -- a rarity this season. Before the 5-3 loss to the Pirates, manager Davey Johnson said left fielder Michael Morse (lat injury) is progressing more quickly than anticipated and could be back in the lineup around June 1. They had been looking at Morse coming back June 8, but Johnson said Morse is doing well in his rehab work. The return of Morse would be a huge boost to the lineup. It would give the middle of the order some punch, especially since the skipper could put Ryan Zimmerman, Morse and Adam LaRoche in the 3-4-5 spots. Johnson also could leave LaRoche in the clean-up spot, with Morse batting fifth to take some pressure off him at first. LaRoche has gotten off to a great start and has been the team's biggest offensive threat, hitting well in the clean-up spot. Morse also could fill the big hole left when Jayson Werth broke his wrist and had surgery last week...

Report: Ramos to miss rest of season

Nationals catcher Wilson Ramos said Wednesday he will have surgery on his torn right anterior cruciate ligament in two to three weeks, forcing him out for the remainder of the season, The Washington Post reported. Ramos was injured as he chased a ball in the seventh inning of the Nationals' 2-1 win over Cincinnati last Saturday. The 24-year-old said he had not suffered any...

LaRoche, Gonzales lead Nats past Pirates

Adam LaRoche broke open a tight game with a three-run double for his 1,000th career hit after homering for No. 999, and Gio Gonzalez took over the NL strikeout lead from teammate Stephen Strasburg by fanning 10 in seven innings Wednesday night, leading the Washington Nationals past the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-4. Hitting cleanup while Michael Morse is on the disabled list, LaRoche leads...

How Do We Weigh Henry Rodriguez's Stuff With His Inconsistent Performance?

Up three runs last night, the Washington Nationals rolled the dice and allowed Henry Rodriguez to attempt to close the game for them. The gamble worked. Rodriguez retired three of the four batters he faced with the one batter reaching base on an Ian Desmond error. He earned save No. 9 on the season, and Nats fans were left having to pick up the batteries from the remote they threw...

Nationals Pitching Is Still Excellent After A Weird Week of Outings

The Washington Nationals pitching staff has been its strength throughout the course of the year so far. In April, the numbers were staggering and unsustainable, and the ERAs have started to tick up in the past week or so. But while Nationals starting pitchers no longer have sub-2.00 ERAs, they've still been an elite staff. In April, the Nationals pitching staff gave up a total...

Nationals Fall Short In Another Late-Inning Rally

It looked like it was going to be a really rough day for the Washington Nationals through five innings on Thursday at Nationals Park. Pirates starter John McDonald had electric stuff. He struck out 10 of the first 15 batters he faced, and took a no-hitter into the sixth. Things came unraveled for McDonald in the sixth though when he gave up a lead off double to Jesus Flores followed...

Nationals Power Their Way To A 7-4 Win Over The Pirates

The Washington Nationals powered their way through to a 7-4 win last night over the Pittsburgh Pirates at Nationals Park. The win helped the squad improve the 23-14 on the season, which means they once again sit atop the National League East. Despite allowing the most earned runs in an outing since his ugly April 7 debut, Gio Gonzalez looked strong Wednesday night through the majority...

Pirates-Nationals Preview

Jordan Zimmermann has been a big part of the Washington Nationals' success on the mound. Pittsburgh Pirates counterpart James McDonald has made significant contributions to his team as well. Zimmermann takes the hill opposite McDonald as the Nationals try for a two-game sweep of the visiting Pirates on Thursday night. Washington (23-14) has posted a major league-best 2.89...

It was the 6th inning and he had just struck out Bryce Harper and Ryan Zimmerman to set down 11 straight National hitters. But then former Pirates Adam LaRoche and Xavier Nady hit back-to-back homers to give Washington a 4-1 lead...

Former Buccos bury the Pirates

Remember when we used to make fun of Adam LaRoche for sucking so bad? Remember when he used to hit below .200 for the first half of the season while playing first base for the Pirates? What the hell happened? Last night, LaRoche went 3 for 4 including a homer, 4 RBIs and his 1,000th Major League hit and led the Nationals to a 7-4 win over the Buccos. Again, what the hell happened...
