In the seemingly never-ending saga regarding Alex Rodriguez’s alleged use of performance-enhancing drugs, new allegations have surfaced that indicate the New York Yankees slugger used the code word “food” in text messages when communicating with Biogenesis founder Anthony Bosch when discussing and ordering PEDs.

The inflammatory, in-depth and fascinating report in New York magazine alleges that text message exchanges between A-Rod and Bosh feature communication going back and forth where Rodriguez indicates he requires “food” and even include messages where A-Rod chastises Bosch for using the code word “meds.”

Rodriguez, who is engaged in a fierce, bitter and acrimonious — as well as comically desperate — fight with MLB to preserve his professional life and already heavily damaged reputation as he appeals his 211-game suspension, countered Bosch’s allegations with the claim that “food” actually meant nutrition, not PEDs.

Bosch reportedly turned over a Blackberry to Major League Baseball that contained the alleged messages. A sampling of the text exchanges, as summarized by the New York Post:

Bosch used the term “meds” in a message to Rodriguez in April 2012, the magazine reported, with Rodriguez responding minutes later: “Not meds dude. food.” MLB’s investigators viewed the exchange as Rodriguez reminding Bosch of their ruse.

But a day before, according to the article, Bosch texted Rodriguez with the question, “Do u think they are going to test?” Rodriguez responded with “Maybe” — and also texted to ask what time he should use the “food” for a 1 p.m. game. Rodriguez, according to the magazine, claimed the question about timing was because he wanted maximum effectiveness from the food at game time. But Bosch said Rodriguez was attempting to avoid detection in a potential test for performance-enhancing drugs.

On April 3, 2012, Rodriguez felt “explosive,” according to a text message. “Awesome,” Bosch replied. “Go with the same protocol.”

And the New York mag report gets more sordid and damning from there. Fascinating piece and a must-read, if A-Rod’s continuing fall from grace remains an intriguing story to the reader.

In annual rite of winter, Yankees sign Russ Canzler

As a public display of panic, the Yankees last January signed veteran minor league lugnut Russ Canzler off waivers. A month later, as a show of uncertainty, they put him on waivers and lost him to Baltimore, who later dealt him to Chicago. (I don't think they ever took his picture in a Yankee hat.) It was a re-enactment of the ceremonial passing of Calvin Trillin's famous...

Mariners May Push Empire Out Of Cano Sweeps

Lookin' Good!According to multiple sources of ESPNNewYork.com, the Yankees have a less than 'fifty-fifty' shot of signing their only remaining superstar—Robinson Cano. While newcomer Brian McCann will likely perform well in the Bronx, he does not have the "duende" of a Cano. The reason for the dwindling chances of The Bronx Embalmers is that the Mariners have...

Mark Wahlberg Shares His Feelings on Yankees Signing Ellsbury

Mark Wahlberg doesn’t exactly like the New York Yankees. So naturally, the gossip site TMZ had to ask Wahlberg how he felt about the most recent player to ink with the Yankees – former Boston...

According to Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News, the two sides are “oceans apart” in negotiations. Feinsand reports that there are...

The Ellsbury Deal Helps Scott Boras Gets Even With Jay-Z

“Scott Boras, you over baby. Robinson Cano, you coming with me,” is one of the lyrics in Jay-Z’s song “Crown” off the “Magna Carta Holy Grail” album. Some were puzzled when HOVA dissed Scott Boras earlier this year. I get it. Jay took one of Scott’s best clients. Yet why would a mogul like Jay-Z need to start a fight with a 61 year old man? Now I know that Mr. Carter...
