PLAYERS: David Price
TEAMS: Tampa Bay Rays

From NESN:

David Price wasn’t alone when he got the keys to Tampa for his efforts during the 2012 season.

Price’s dog, Astro, was also given his own smaller set of keys as well. Astro even said a few words, which Price translated as, “Thank you.”

The Rays’ starter won the American League Cy Young Award last season after going 20-5 with a 2.56 ERA in 211 innings. Price had 205 strikeouts with just 59 walks.

Price thanked the city of Tampa via Twitter, saying he never dreamed he would get such an honor. He also posted a picture of their keys (seen above):

Check out a video of the ceremony below.

  • Congrats to David Price, very well deserved....Funny, Price and the Rays play in St. Pete and the mayor and city ignore his accomplishments but the city of Tampa doesn't.....Rays need to move across the bay to Tampa! St. Pete could care less about the Rays.

Tampa Bay Rays ‘Always Seem to Know’ When to Move On From Players (Video)

Do you trade for an established player, or trade for a prospect with huge potential? That’s the question reportedly splitting the baseball industry in regards to the Tampa Bay Rays’ just-completed trade which sent out James Shields in return for uber-prospect Wil Myers. Do the Rays Need Offensive Help?

The Tampa Bay Rays may be great at pitching and defense, but they do not score many runs… Right? MLB Trade Rumors thinks so: The Rays could address multiple needs by dealing a top-of-the-rotation starter. Rays Sign Roberto Hernandez

The Rays began life after James Shields in earnest with their first transaction since the big move Wednesday. The club is reportedly close to inking pitcher Roberto Hernandez — formerly and better known as Fausto Carmona — to a contract. Terms have yet to be revealed, but given his struggles the last two seasons — a 5.41 ERA and 1.8 K/BB in 202 innings — and his suspension...

Tampa Bay Rays closing in on Roberto Hernandez / Fausto Carmona

After seven seasons with the Indians, it appears that Roberto Hernandez (Carmona) will not be back again. After a wild off-season that saw his true identity revealed, and a mostly down 2012 when he finally did appear in some games, Hernandez is reportedly close to signing with the Tampa Bay Rays. #Rays close to signing RHP Roberto Hernandez (former Fausto Carmona). Hot Stove Thoughts-Royals-Rays Deal

It's a deal that could change the focus of both franchises. The Royals and Rays shook up their franchises with a deal that involved 6 players and one to be named later. As talk of a possible trade that included Wil Myers being traded from the Royals to Tampa Bay gained momentum, I never thought it would be a one player for one player deal. In today's market, starting...
