During the bottom of the eighth inning of the game between the Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field on Wednesday night, a fan flashed some sweet catching skills in capturing a foul ball off the bat of Mariners first baseman Justin Smoak.

With the ball descending down on him, the young man utilized the only thing he had in his possession that could be used in place of a glove: his beer cup.

With his pals jockeying for position under the foul ball, he snatched the ball out of their respective clutches by catching it his glass. And then, without any regard for the dirty ball floating in his cup of suds, proceeded to slam his beer in classic brewski-slugging fashion.

The Astros did WHAT?

We’re still in April, but by season’s end you’ll be hard-pressed to find a stranger baseball score than Astros 16, Mariners 9 at Safeco Field on Tuesday night. First off, it was a cold night in a pitcher’s park with two inept offenses. And not even that basic descriptor does this thing justice. Games like this are what give Tim Kurkijan a mega-boner.
