In Wednesday's crucial A's-Rangers matchup for the AL West title, the Rangers jumped out to a 5-1 lead. In the fourth inning, the A's came back to tie the score 5-5. Then, still in the fourth, they took the lead 7-5 after Josh Hamilton dropped a seemingly routine pop-up by Yoenis Cespedes with two outs, allowing a pair of runs to score. The A's never looked back, defeating the Rangers 12-5 and snatching away the AL West division title on the last day of the regular season.

Time for Rangers to snap out of it

Think maybe now the Texas Rangers will snap out of it? The two-time defending American League champions have been mostly sleepwalking since the first two weeks of the season. Rangers take early lead, collapse late

I don’t have a lot to say about this game.  There’s not really much to say … at least not without repeating what I’ve been saying the past few weeks. Game 162 was pretty much a reflection of the season. Early lead, late collapse. The Rangers jumped out to 5-1 lead in the 3rd.  Morale (among fans on Twitter and in the dugout) was high, and a win was within our grasp. The...

O's, A's provide blueprint for Royals success

KANSAS CITY, Mo. As he peered out from behind a pile of boxes, Chris Getz couldn't take his eyes off the screen. There was Josh Hamilton, dropping fly balls like the kid in Little League who got stuck playing right field. There were the Oakland Athletics, a party in lemon yellow, hooting and hollering with glee. The Oakland Athletics, who, at the All-Star break, sat at .500...

Switch pitcher could see action in MLB

29-year-old New York Yankees minor leaguer Pat Venditte normally wouldn’t be a player worth noticing. He’s been in the minors for the past seven seasons after the Yankees selected him in the 45th round of the 2007 amateur draft.  On the surface, Venditte is nothing more than your non-prospect who has bounced around in small towns in an attempt to make it to the Majors. Hard to believe, but Mark Townsend of Yahoo Big League Stew reports that a high school “Rubber Baseball” game in Japan went a full 50 innings, or 5.6 full length games before being decided 3-0 (no scoring the first 49 innings).  The winner was Chukyo High School over Sotoku in the tournament semifinal game. Some of the stats are almost too much to be true.  According to Townsend...
