Recently retired New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera was making a public appearance on Wednesday morning when the topic of what would be the perfect gift for some of his more prominent ex-teammates came up.

Rivera, handing out gifts at a Dick’s Sporting Goods in Manhattan while wearing a Santa hat, joked about what the ideal gift would be for Joe Girardi (hair dye) and Robinson Cano (“a piece of paper, a contract, and tell him to sign it”), but according to the New York Daily News, he saved his most curious and hilarious idea for a perfect present for Derek Jeter.

Rivera reportedly told the crowd that the ideal gift for Jeter would be a life-size female doll, “so he would have a wife.”

HEY-OHHHH!!!!

Of course, Jeter is a notorious ladykiller of some renown, so in a way, Rivera’s idea, given Jeter’s confirmed bachelorhood, makes some semblance of sense. Although I have to wonder if Rivera fully grasped exactly how his idea may have some, shall we say, unfortunate and unintended connotations.

Further, while Jeter may in fact turn out to be a lifelong bachelor, he has had ample opportunity, given the slew of gorgeous and famous women he has dated, to perhaps have had the option to settle down at one point or another.

Rumors did heat up earlier this year about a possible engagement to his current arm candy, supermodel Hannah Davis when she was spotted sporting some pretty fancy bling on her ring finger, although those rumors proved to be inaccurate.

But still, come on Mariano Rivera: Do you really think Jeter needs a life-size female doll? Once againHannah-freaking-Davis, for crying out loud!

In annual rite of winter, Yankees sign Russ Canzler

As a public display of panic, the Yankees last January signed veteran minor league lugnut Russ Canzler off waivers. A month later, as a show of uncertainty, they put him on waivers and lost him to Baltimore, who later dealt him to Chicago. (I don't think they ever took his picture in a Yankee hat.) It was a re-enactment of the ceremonial passing of Calvin Trillin's famous...

Mariners May Push Empire Out Of Cano Sweeps

Lookin' Good!According to multiple sources of ESPNNewYork.com, the Yankees have a less than 'fifty-fifty' shot of signing their only remaining superstar—Robinson Cano. While newcomer Brian McCann will likely perform well in the Bronx, he does not have the "duende" of a Cano. The reason for the dwindling chances of The Bronx Embalmers is that the Mariners have...

Mark Wahlberg Shares His Feelings on Yankees Signing Ellsbury

Mark Wahlberg doesn’t exactly like the New York Yankees. That’s a little bit of an understatement, of course, but to properly depict Wahlberg’s feelings for the Bronx Bombers would require language that we try to avoid on this website. So naturally, the gossip site TMZ had to ask Wahlberg how he felt about the most recent player to ink with the Yankees – former Boston...

When All Ells Fails, Yanks Spend Money

You take a guy fresh off a boat -- let's call him Sailor -- and Sailor's boat left a country that didn't have baseball. Chase Headley Could Replace A-Rod New York Yankees fans have to be feeling pretty good less than 48 hours after experiencing a day of news reports that reported free agent outfielder Carlos Beltran in Kansas City meeting with the Royals, and then the bombshell that the Seattle Mariners became the front-runner to swipe away second baseman Robinson Cano. Three Years Won’t Be Enough To Get Granderson

The New York Mets are serious about signing Curtis Granderson. But, will the three-year contract that has been |reported be enough? At 32, Granderson would likely want a fourth year considering what is going on in the market. If Carlos Beltran, who is four years older than Granderson is reportedly talking with Kansas City for a three-year, $48-million contract, it stands to reason...

Mariners Rumors: Seattle willing to offer Robinson Cano 10-years, $230-240 million

The Ellsbury Deal Helps Scott Boras Gets Even With Jay-Z

“Scott Boras, you over baby. Robinson Cano, you coming with me,” is one of the lyrics in Jay-Z’s song “Crown” off the “Magna Carta Holy Grail” album. Some were puzzled when HOVA dissed Scott Boras earlier this year. I get it. Jay took one of Scott’s best clients. Yet why would a mogul like Jay-Z need to start a fight with a 61 year old man? Now I know that Mr. Carter...

Tit for Tat: Should Sox Go For Granderson?

Of course, the Red Sox shouldn't sign a player out of revenge. That's something the Yankees would do, right? But isn't it a little interesting how New York's signing of two major contracts with Brian McCann and Jacoby Ellsbury opens things up for the Red Sox to in turn sign center fielder Curtis Granderson? It might be a long shot, but it's not out of the...
