TEAMS: Chicago Cubs

Coming off of a four game winning streak, rumors are beginning to take shape for the Cubs. Matt Garza, who is one of the top pitchers expected to be traded away before the end of the month, has been joined on the trading block by relief pitcher Kevin Gregg and outfielder Alfonso Soriano. Gregg and Soriano, both experienced veterans, have impressed many GMs around the league, especially on the hot streak the Cubs have been on. Soriano has hit 5 homers in his last seven games, reviving rumors that he might be dealt to a team in need of a right handed hitter. The Rangers, who might lose outfielder Nelson Cruz because of the biogenesis scandal, are reportedly looking for a solid backup with a strong bat just in case. Soriano had previously been linked to the Rangers, and the deal would still make a lot of sense. Gregg, who now has 15 saves to go along with his 1.78 ERA and has been catching a lot of attention around the league. Due to the way he has been pitching, the Cub...

The Chicago Cubs and the city have reached an agreement that allows the franchise to build an electric Jumbotron above the outfield walls in Wrigley Field.

Weird And/Or Drunk Cubs Fan Bites Lady During Game

This strange moment was captured by cameras during last night’s Cubs-Cardinals game. It shows one Cubs fan leaning over and biting the shoulder of another, a woman who is talking to a Cardinals fan. I’m going to go ahead and assume these two Cubs fans know each other (god, I hope so) and that the guy was either a little too drunk, a little too jealous, or just didn’t want the...

JOT: Cubs Minor League Recap 7-10-13

First, I'd like to apologize for the extreme lateness of the JOT today. Usually, I bang them out at work (I get here an hour early and write it). Today that didn't happen because I was very busy all day. It'll probably happen again tomorrow. Perhaps someday this will actually be my job, but I'm probably several years away from that happening, if ever.  Next, I'...

An agreement to install two new electronic signs at Wrigley Field has been reached between the Chicago Cubs and the city of Chicago. The Commission on Chicago Landmarks unanimously approved of the deal in a vote Thursday evening, making the signs one step closer to becoming reality. The proposed Jumbotron in left field would be 5,700 square feet in area, while the right field advertising...

Chicago Cubs Purchase Contract Of RHP Michael Bowden

The Chicago Cubs have purchased the contract of right-handed reliever Michael Bowden from their Triple-A Iowa farm club. Bowden has been solid in the majors this season, putting in a 3.78 ERA over 16 and 2/3 innings. He is expected to get his playing time out of the pen pitching middle relief. In a corresponding move to create the roster space for Bowden, the Cubs have optioned left...

JOT: Cubs Minor League Recap 7-12-13

Albuquerque Isotopes 0 @ Iowa Cubs 3 This one was a pitching duel, so not much in the way of offense. J.C. Bocan had a 2-run double that put the game away in his 1-3 day. Darnell McDonald was 2-2 with a walk. Other than that, meh. Guillermo Moscoso was tremendous, though, taking a no-hitter into the 8th, finishing with a line of 8 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 2 BB's and 5 Ks. Brian Schlitter...

Cubs' Garza wins 5th straight

Matt Garza pitched into the seventh inning for his fifth consecutive win and Alfonso Soriano homered again, leading the Chicago Cubs to a 6-4 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday night. Garza allowed a season-high 10 hits in 6 2-3 innings, but held the NL's highest scoring offense to two runs while improving to 5-0 with a 1.24 ERA in his last six starts. With a handful...

Brett Jackson Is Missing!

First, the news to set up:   So, I think that debate is done. The point: Brett Jackson isn’t with Iowa and isn’t on the roster given to real reporters covering the team. — Tommy Birch (@TommyBirch) July 13, 2013 Tommy Birch is pretty much the Iowa Cubs’ beat reporter and he’s on his game, so if Brett Jackson is missing as reported, then we take it at his word.  That said...

Wrigley renovation clears hurdle

The Chicago Cubs' planned $500 million renovation of Wrigley Field has won the approval of another city commission and the support of the local alderman -- all but assuring the project will go forward. Good night for being a Cubs fan

I should be in bed after getting home from tonight’s surprisingly easy Cubs victory over the St. Louis Cardinals, but I’m still on a bit of a high.  No matter the record, it’s always fun to go to the ball park and watch my favorite team, and it’s extra fun to watch them play well and win.  Yes, the Cubs are still far back in the division and wild-card races, and yes, they’re...

Preview: Kelly looks to hault Cubs recent success

While the St. Louis Cardinals sit atop the NL Central and the Chicago Cubs find themselves near the bottom, manager Dale Sveum's club isn't to be overlooked. The Cubs try to keep rolling Friday when they continue a four-game set against the visiting Cardinals, who could be without Matt Holliday. Fourth-place Chicago (41-49) has won five of six and 16 of 27 after taking...
