Pete Rose is no longer the all-time hits leader. Well, at least according to Topps. It seems the baseball card company was not only printing the biggest baseball card in the world, they are actually changing history as well.
ChicagoSideSports.com’s Rob Harris has a keen eye to go along with his avid love of baseball cards. He was looking at the back of the new cards for 2013 and saw a new feature that is labeled “Career Chase.”
It’s meant to show just how far off each player is from the career totals of record holders.
On the back of each card, between each player’s personal information and his complete statistics, there’s a little line labeled “Career Chase.” It doesn’t matter the player’s length of play or status, there is a sentence indicating how close that player is to reaching one of the game’s big records.
Topps has taken it upon itself to omit Rose’s name from the hits record, even though his banishment from baseball happened well after his playing days. And even though Rose isn’t eligible to be elected to the Hall of Fame, the museum still recognizes him as the record holder.
Here's what Harris writes at Chicago Side Sports:
For Paul Konerko, the Career Chase line indicates that his 422 career home runs are 340 shy of Barry Bonds’ career record of 762. Konerko — who is nearing 37 years of age — has an outside chance at 500 career home runs, but he certainly won’t approach Barry Bonds’ record. The Career Chase line isn’t meant to suggest he’s closing in, but it helps put his accomplishments in perspective.
Another example, courtesy of Topps: John Danks has 57 career wins, which puts him 454 behind career leader Cy Young.
OK, I get it.
But then I flip the card Starlin Castro, whose solid start as the shortstop for the Cubs has him sitting at 529 hits, which is—as Career Chase points out—a mere 3,727 away from the all-time record of 4,256 held by…. Wait a second. Topps doesn’t say who holds the record. Every other record has a name attached, but not where the hits record is concerned.
I haven’t collected cards in years because the market became so watered down and obscene. This makes me hate it even more because of the pettiness.
As it has been pointed out to us, Rose’s name and/or likeness is not allowed on any MLB products due to his ban, hence the exclusion on the cards.

A record is a record...
It's like telling the Jury to "disregard that statement"...
At least we know Pete Rose did it with his god given abilities and no one will ever be able to erase his accomplishments. Who cares if he gambled. I enjoyed watching him play baseball.

first and foremost...just because he is banned from the hall of fame doesnt mean he isnt the all time hit leader... does Topps still have Bonds as the home run leader...if so they are being hypocritical ... secondly...he is banned because of something he did as a manager not a player...get over it baseball and put the greatest player in the hall
I have ben a Stl Cardinal fan since I was 4 years old but I loved watching Rose because he was always hustling and not dragging his feet like most professional athletes do these days.
Its unfortunate that non-athletes are responsible for most of the chaos in Sports. Its the money that is talking and making sports boring.
Baseball has hit a all time low. I will never watch another game, the fun just is not there.
He is a pompous JA of a person with a gambling sickness . I can see where he felt that if he was managing his team , they couldn't lose .
What he did was against the rules and he has been extremely punished . The fact that the Commissioner that was in office that made the ruling against Pete had a heart attack and died has been held against him as well.
Rose was the player of his era that would take a pitch in the side , ram into a fielder to dislodge the ball or do anything it would take to win a ballgame with out regard for his body.
Topps has been on the down side for years and their decision to pretend Rose never existed won't bode well for them.
All that matters is the real books in MLB. You guys are pathetic.What Pete did after his career should not affect even his HOF but whatever. We all know who the kings of HITS N HOMERUNS are and that is all that matter. TOPPS just lost a fan n most importantly a customer. Sorry asses.

When I was a kid, Pete Rose was my hero and still is. What he did for baseball is still first rate in my book. Yes, he made a mistake. But look at what's out there now..PEDs, self centered egotistical money grubbers. Nothing I would call a roll model.
I collected baseball cards for over 55 years. Sadley many were destroyed years ago.
But no more. Topps and the Hall of Fame can kiss my ---
I remember buying these things with a gakky ol piece of gum..but it was for the cards My sister got the gum (nice guy aint I?).
I met Pete years and years ago. You couldn't ask for a nicer guy to be a hero. He took interest in his fans and didn't worry about the $5.00 that most got (at that time) for an autograph.
PETE, keep your head up.. Judging from the other posts. I'm not alone. The best to you!
Sure...the better thing to do would be to not name ANY of the leaders. Just say someone is #### amount of wins away from 511 without naming Cy Young. Then it would be consistent. But really, the one to blame is MLB for not allowing his name to be used at all. Except when it means money for them.
I guess all companies want any kind of publicity they can get...even if it makes them look petty and foolish. I hope your company goes out of business soon.
