Alex Rodriguez may not be the most popular Yankee in the Newport Riverside apartment complex in Tampa.

Newport Riverside is one of the many apartment complexes owned by Newport Property Ventures (a company founded by A-Rod), but this one is different from the 14 others — it comes fully equipped with rats, roaches, rotting wood and leaky ceilings, according to News 10.

And nothing is apparently being done about it.

In fact, this isn’t the first time the residents have complained, as the New York Times ran a feature on the complex five years ago, reporting similar complaints.

But that’s not it. Residents reportedly have also been towed recently for parking in their own parking spots “incorrectly”. Earlier this week, tow trucks removed a number of residents’ cars because they backed into their spots, which violates a non-posted policy of only parking “front in.”

Tenant Leslie Barnes was one of the residents who had to cough up $175 to get her car back from the tow company. That money was supposed to go toward her children’s Christmas gifts.

So there you have it: Grinch-Rod is apparently stealing gifts from children.

  • this isn't a shock. the guy is a sociopath
  • I really doubt that ARod knew of this, and I am sure he would not accept it. There is such a negative spin about him. I am thinking of Keith Richards, because I just saw him on TV last night, and he has had a life of drugs and ripping others off and all sorts of other things that we all know about. He is also way over paid. Yet no one complains about him.
  • Seems to me if this has been going on for five years that Arod knows and if he does not than he knows now for sure. Not only that he should have known anyway if he really wants to be a businessman. I would consider that ARod is what is known world wide as a Slumlord.
  • One celebrity's behavior does not excuse another one's. Keith Richards has nothing to do with this situation.

A-Rod probably didn't know, but if you're gonna own apartment buildings, then you need to know. It's no excuse - no different than the fat-cat CEOs that make millions and then claim they didn't know their accountants were cooking the books. A-Rod is making mnoney off the deal, he needs to fix the situation.

And I'm not so sure A-Rod would have stepped in and changed things even if he did know. The guy is a known dueche bag.
  • Why would you doubt the accuracy of the report, considering the NY Times ran an article about this very complex and similar complaints five (5) years ago? It is very possible that it is run by a management company and they have not been following up on the complaints. However, if this is his property, he has an obligation to check up every once in awhile and see how they are being taken care of by those responsible for maintaining it on his behalf, since he is paying for their services. If he doesn't check on these things and something like this is brought to the attention of the media and his name is linked with it, then shame on him.
  • He should be made to live there.
  • Go get an apartment or rent a home in BOSTON ( CCCHHOOWWDDAAA LAND ) - PLENTY OF RATS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL. LOL.
  • Towed for BACKING into your parking spot? REALLY? Kind of a petty rule! And if it isn't posted...that would be an easily challenged tow in court!
As for the rats etc. Don't even try to tell me he doesn't know about it, when this is NOT the first time this has been in the news. Sounds like he approaches his business investments like he approaches his hitting duties in the play-offs. Lackadaisically!
  • Hope & pray YOUK. dosn't bring any RATS from P#SS CLAM country !!!!
  • Yes I agree ARod should have to live thereat least for a month then all that money he makes could fix that place up at least a million times.
  • a-rod is a turd. yankee-slum-lord!
  • What on EARTH, does knocking the ball to Jersey or R. Crumb-trucking your way to Cooperstown, have to do with "being a nice man"? If you think they're related talking points, watch the Tommy Lee Jones movie, "Cobb". If you think we as human persons, are more evolved in 2012, read the news without your favorite professor's propaganda resounding in your head.
The Mick--and this is provable, historically--was a jerkazoid. Who Cares? JEEEZZZ, could the man play ball!
