PLAYERS: Vin Scully

Via NESN:

For anyone who’s ever gotten stuck trying to explain Twitter to their grandparents, Vin Scully offered another moment for the ages Wednesday night.

The revered 85-year-old broadcaster, who continues to endear himself to baseball fans no matter how little he knows about the modern parts of the game’s publicity, had quite a time delivering a promo during the Dodgers-Padres game. He was reading a question asking fans whether they preferred hitters’ parks or pitchers’ parks, and of course the on-screen graphic invited fans to submit their answers with hashtags on Twitter.

And of course Scully knows very little about Twitter.

Scully decided to talk a little about his complete ignorance of the medium, riffing on hashtags and then diverging into other concepts that he cannot comprehend — such as Dog TV, a station that is being set up to “comfort pets” at home when their owners leave for the day. (That led to a graceful segue wherein he mentioned Petco Park.)

Scully has admitted before that he has no use or understanding of Twitter, but this hashtag conversation took his Twitter analysis to another level. It was just the kind of situation that makes baseball fans love the man all the more.

Vin Scully: 'What in the world is a hashtag?'

Your browser does not support iframes. Vin Scully at the young age of 85 years old may be one (if not THE) of the greatest announcers in MLB history, and remains baffled by social media. Vin took the opportunity during the Dodgers and Padres game on Wednesday night to point out a few flaws especially with that pesky hashtag. Here is a taste of the rant courtesy of Big League Stew...

Vin Scully substitutes 'fertilizer' for profanity

During Thursday night's crazy Dodgers-Padres brawl, Dodgers brodcaster Vin Scully has a creative term for an expletive-laced outburst by Matt Kemp: "fertilizer." Instead of repeating the word Kemp was saying during the brawl (bullsh*t, for those curious), Scully went with the unique, technical term. It's actually a tactic he has used before to communicate a player...

Vin Scully doesn’t understand hashtags or Dog TV (Video)

Your browser does not support iframes. Vin Scully was in peak form on Wednesday night when doing a read to promote a Twitter poll. Prime Ticket wanted fans to say whether they preferred watching games in a hitter’s or pitcher’s park, and the fans were asked to vote using a hashtag. The result was a fantastic rant by the legendary 85-year-old Los Angeles Dodgers broadcaster, who...

Vin Scully talks hashtags and TV for dogs

Your browser does not support iframes. Legendary Los Angeles Dodgers announcer Vin Scully went on a legendary tangent last night after reading a Twitter poll to the fans at home.  After saying the options "#HittersPark" or "#PitchersPark" he asked the question on every person's mind over the age of 65, "what in the world is hashtag?" Vin...

Vin Scully does not understand hashtags

Well, except the longtime Dodgers announcer does not understand hashtags. “What in the World is  Hashtag” asked Scully during Wednesday’s night telecast of the Dodgers versus Padres. Your browser does not support iframes. Scully did not stop there he does not understand the creation of DogTV. Who does not love...

Dodgers Zach Greinke Breaks Collarbone in Bench-Clearing Brawl

A brief moment  of anger is going to cost the Los Angeles Dodgers one of their starting pitchers for six to eight weeks. Zach Greinke fractured his collarbone in a collision with Carlos Quentin of the San Diego Padres. The hit comes at the start of a fight that cleared the benches, but is more notable for the way that play-by-play man Vin Scully narrated the whole mess. I can...

Carlos Quentin Suspended 8 Games. Jerry Hairston, Jr. Suspended 1. No word on Matt Kemp

Vin Scully just announced on air during the Top of the 2nd inning of the Dodgers-Diamondbacks game that the length of the suspension to Carlos Quentin for his involvement in last night’s bench-clearing brawl that broke the collarbone of Dodgers starter Zack Greinke will be 8 games.  Jerry Hairston, Jr., for his role coming out of the dugout and yelling at the Padres bench after...

Pitino on Chris Jones: As good a guard as I've coached

Rick Pitino has coached some pretty good guards during his nearly 40-year career in college basketball.  Recently at Louisville, there was Russ Smith, the two-time All-American, and Peyton Siva, the point guard who led the Cardinals to a national championship in 2013. He had a host of talented players at Kentucky, too, the school with which he won it all in 1998.  A player currently...
