Grand slam in extra innings

After last week, the Seattle Mariners needed some breaks to go their way. After the M’s were playing catchup the entire game Friday afternoon in Toronto, Michael Saunders came through huge with first a game tying home run, and then the walk-off grand slam in the 10th to win the game.

The M’s finished that game with their 4th win in a row, but did end up losing the final two games in Toronto.

The Pitch

With a pitchers count, and one out, Luis Perez goes with a breaking ball to Saunders in an effort to induce an inning ending double play.

But the tough thing with breaking balls is, sometimes they hang, and when they do, they get pounded. Just like the one that Perez threw to Saunders in the 10th.

The swing

The swing that Michael Saunders took on this pitch didn’t look like the prototypical bases loaded swing that every boy in America has been practicing awaiting this very moment.

Yes, I’m sure that Saunders was trying to get the ball deep, and score the run via a sacrifice fly, as he lofted the ball with his upper cut swing.

This ball just barely cleared the wall, and in the event that Bautista would have caught it, the M’s still would have gone up in the 10th.

But just for heroics, Saunders got the ball just deep enough for the HUGE grand slam.

I’m sure that Dave Niehaus was breaking out the rye bread and mustard for this one.

Mike Carp called up to the Mariners

With the injury last night to Miguel Olivo the M's are in a bit of a catching dilemna. John Jaso, and Jesus Montero will now run the show, but you don't want to get Montero hurt as he's your best bat right now, so insert Mike Carp into the lineup, most likely at DH. The team hasn’t announced it yet, but the man himself has: Mike Carp has been reactivated from the...

Alligator Bites, Drags 75-Year-Old Man Into Pond at Florida Golf Course

Whoever came up with Milton Bradley's tag line for Gator Golf clearly never dealt with a real life alligator. If you ask 75-year-old Albert Miller, he'll tell you a lot of things are greater than golf with a gator. That's because he was bitten and dragged into a pond by a 9-foot alligator while playing golf last week, according to The Ledger. "You'll never get...
