After last week, the Seattle Mariners needed some breaks to go their way. After the M’s were playing catchup the entire game Friday afternoon in Toronto, Michael Saunders came through huge with first a game tying home run, and then the walk-off grand slam in the 10th to win the game.
The PitchThe M’s finished that game with their 4th win in a row, but did end up losing the final two games in Toronto.
With a pitchers count, and one out, Luis Perez goes with a breaking ball to Saunders in an effort to induce an inning ending double play.

But the tough thing with breaking balls is, sometimes they hang, and when they do, they get pounded. Just like the one that Perez threw to Saunders in the 10th.
The swingThe swing that Michael Saunders took on this pitch didn’t look like the prototypical bases loaded swing that every boy in America has been practicing awaiting this very moment.
Yes, I’m sure that Saunders was trying to get the ball deep, and score the run via a sacrifice fly, as he lofted the ball with his upper cut swing.
This ball just barely cleared the wall, and in the event that Bautista would have caught it, the M’s still would have gone up in the 10th.
But just for heroics, Saunders got the ball just deep enough for the HUGE grand slam.
I’m sure that Dave Niehaus was breaking out the rye bread and mustard for this one.
