Wisconsin-native Jordan Zimmerman pitched his first game against Milwaukee, and his teammates hit three home runs in the Washington Nationals' 4-1 victory over the Brewers on Saturday night.
Zimmerman (8-6) struck out six and gave up five hits in six innings. He was born in Auburndale and played at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Tyler Clippard pitched the ninth for his 19th save.
Washington center fielder Bryce Harper was a late scratch because of a stomach virus and was replaced by Corey Brown.
In the fourth, Brown's solo homer to left - his first career hit - and Tyler Moore's two-run blast gave Washington a 3-0 lead. Ryan Zimmerman added a solo homer in the fifth.
Randy Wolf (3-7) gave up four earned runs on nine hits in seven innings for Milwaukee, which got a home run from Rickie Weeks in the fifth inning.

After Rick Ankiel was DFA'd last week, it was only a matter of time before his unconditional release. That happened today: the Nationals unconditionally released Rick Ankiel.
To commemorate the day, we present the "Ankiel House of Horror" video above. This might be the oddest Rick Ankiel-themed video in history -- goes from just odd to deeply disturbing around...

Nationals 4, Brewers 1: Jordan Zimmermann wins in first big league start in his home state of Wisconsin, 3 hour drive from his home town of Auburndale (population ~700).
Washington Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche left his team's game Sunday against the Milwaukee Brewers due to tightness in his back.
LaRoche singled in the fourth and advanced to second when Michael Morse was hit by a pitch. He did not show any signs of the injury while on base, then was replaced by Tyler Moore in the middle of the inning.

Bullpen pitchers are a different breed; shunted off to their own domain for the entirety of each baseball game, the bullpens always seem to house the wackiest and weirdest characters. Recently, plenty of electrons were spilled discussing the story that Washington Nationals player Michael Morse was reportedly reading Fifty Shades of Grey, in actuality it was his girlfriend, not the...
Jordan Zimmermann is part of the best pitching staff in Major League Baseball, and he has the third-highest pitching WAR among that incredible group. Since he was the number three starter at the beginning of the year behind young star Stephen Strasburg and newly acquired Gio Gonzalez, his talent went under the radar. It’s time for that to stop and give JZimm and his value some...
Sometimes it feels as if I’m the only woman that hasn’t gotten swept in the hype that is “Fifty Shades of Grey.” If you are behind on your pop culture index of what books you should be reading, this is an erotic book series about a 22-year old college graduate named Ana that becomes involved [...]
MILWAUKEE Heavy is the head that wears the crown as baseball's most promising young pitcher, and for Washington Nationals right-hander Stephen Strasburg -- whose injury history has been a major topic of discussion since the day he was called up to the big leagues -- that crown has gotten only heavier as time has passed this season.
That's because the Nationals have stated...
