DOs and DONTs: Washington Nationals

Washington finished the 2011 season just a game below .500 for the first time since the Nationals came into existence just before the 2005 season. While it was a big step in the right direction for the organization as a whole, outside of Michael Morse (31 HR, 95 RBI) and Danny Espinosa (21 HR, 66 RBI) there remained few legitimate fantasy options worth pursuing on the active roster...

2012 MLB Team Preview: Washington Nationals

Washington Nationals Logo As the Washington Nationals head into their eighth season, they finally have something to get excited about. What started last off-season by signing Jason Werth, the ownership has continued that they want this team wants to contend now. The franchise’s best divisional finish was in 2011, as they placed third place in the NL East with an 80-81 record just...

Stephen Strasburg Gets His First Start, Davey Johnson Sizes Up Bullpen

The Washington Nationals lost yesterday afternoon 10-2, but that is not what matters. It's the spring, very early in the spring, and winning and losing takes a back seat to tweaking mechanics, shedding rust, and finding roles. The good news, however, is that Davey Johnson began to vet the supposed roles for the hurlers in the team's pitching staff. As you saw...

Ryan Zimmerman Player Projection No. 33

Key Stats: A career .288/.355/.479 bat, Ryan Zimmerman has posted WAR's over 7 in two of the last 3 years. He has this odd little roller coaster career path starting in 2006 of good year, good year, hurt, good year, good year then hurt. Of course that is just observation and not scientific law, but if the cycle holds up, Zimms will have a fine year in 2012. Of course I will probably...

Nationals have asked about Jason Bourgeois

As the Washington Nationals continued their search for outfield help over the offseason, Bill Ladson of MLB.com reports that the Nationals contacted the Astros about Jason Bourgeois three separate times since the Winter Meetings. Ladson notes that the teams are not close to a deal. Bourgeois if acquired, is not considered a long term solution at this time, even though he is coming...

106.7 The Fan's #FUPhilly campaign seems to have riled up Phillies fans

Who cares if trWell, even if 106.7 The Fan's new #FUPhilly promotion fails miserably (like, say no Nationals upload videos using the hashtag or whatever), it has succeeded in pissing off Phillies fans. And for that, it is already a resounding success. See Tweets above, for example. Philly sports blog Crossing Broad ripped into the promotion on Tuesday, and apparently...

Bryce Harper finally got a day off...

(Hey, that's a photo of Bryce Harper with Peter Gammons, via @NationalsPR.) After playing in every game of the spring so far, Bryce Harper finally got a day off on Wednesday. And a well-deserved day off, too. Harper's aggressiveness apparently got the best of him on Tuesday; bet this won't be the last time you read those words over the next few years. Adam Kilgore...
