Steel City Sports Report:
Just when you thought the Pirates had the most heartbreaking end to their season, the Washington Nationals swooped in to take the top prize. The Nats blew a two run lead in the ninth inning by surrendering four runs to the St. Louis Cardinals. The game five loss ended Washington's incredible run and first postseason appearance since moving from Montreal in 2005. Entering the playoffs with the most wins in baseball, the divisional series loss has to be considered premature; however, given the amount of young talent, as well as a large market and wealthy owner (Ted Lerner), the Nationals will surely reach the playoffs multiple times for the next 5-10 years. While the Nationals are a larger market with the ability to sign big free agents, there are still plenty of things the Pirates could learn from them. Most notably, how to handle an elite pitcher. It's kind of like listening to your father when he advises you not to make the same mistake he made. The reason he knows is be...

After watching their team suffer one of the most painful losses in MLB postseason history on Friday night, Nationals fans woke up to an email about buying World Series tickets.
The Nationals responded to questions about shutting down Stephen Strasburg for the playoffs after they lost to the Cardinals.
I did not know five minutes ago — but probably should have, owing to how I’ve watched Law and Order at least once in my life — that, per U.S. law, all deaths are classified as one of five sorts. These sorts, in fact:• Natural• Accidental• Homicide• Suicide• UndeterminedAnother thing I didn’t know five minutes ago, but have realized is likely not the worst idea,...
Good news for you sick, twisted people that were rooting for the Pittsburgh Pirates to lose at least 82 games this year.
I have found a Parrot costume on eBay, bid on it, and successfully secured the rights.
How can something so colorful and ridiculous not look great on me?

Gotta say, we had nothing but respect and admiration for Drew Storen before the Game 5 nightmare; but we might have even more respect and admiration for him now after watching him stand up and face a phalanx of reporters after the game. Stand up guy. Mike Wise of the Washington Post has a fairly painful-to-read account of Storen in the clubhouse after the game. Gut wrenching doesn...
The Washington Nationals are still stinging from their loss to the St. Louis Cardinals in Game Five of the National League Division Series. However, the team will need to begin to look toward 2013. The Washington Nationals suffered a heartbreaking collapse to the ever pesky St. Louis Cardinals and after the game the players were met with an unwelcome sight.
The Nationals players walked into the clubhouse and found that the plastic covering the lockers from champagne being sprayed all over.
Oof. Talk about adding insult to injury.
The plastic had been rolled up and quickly...
(Eds: With AP Photos.) By HOWARD FENDRICH AP Sports Writer For their first seven years, filled with on-field losses and off-field gaffes, the Washington Nationals merely existed, barely mattered.
That's why so much that happened in 2012 felt new and significant to them. All the regular-season wins - a best-in-baseball 98 - and the NL East title, the postseason highs and lows...
Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper is just nineteen years of age and had himself a very nice rookie season.
But it is widely known that the kid has some growing up to do and has made news frequently for things he has said or done on and off the field.
Take for example earlier this season in Toronto when he responded to an ill-advised reporters question with the infamous...
