Strasburg felt the forearm tightness in NY during bullpen session. It's in muscle on top of arm, opposite side of Tommy John surgery area. — Chase Hughes (@chasehughesCSN) September 13, 2013 Washington Nationals will be out of their starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg for an undisclosed upper arm injury that occurred while he was practicing a new pitch. As of now, Strasburg is scratched from the line up for tonight’s game against the Phillies, confirmed by manager Davey Johnson. In his place is veteran Ross Ohlendorf. A creditable source released that Strasburg had felt tightness in his upper arm in the bullpen in New York and was also rumored to have hamstring tightness close to 2 weeks ago. This season Strasburg has recorded a career-high 170 innings across 28 starts this year, went 7-9 with a 2.96 ERA and 1.04 WHIP. He owns a career 2.95 ERA in 421 1/3 innings since breaking into the big leagues in 2010. Manager Davey Johnson told media that it appeared to be a “soft-tissue” injury and said that the concern for the pitcher’s return was low. Despite the Nationals making a late surge into the fringes for a Wild Card spot in the National League, the loss of Strasburg puts more added pressure onto the team. Strasburg’s next start will be on September 19th after he is completed with testing and a short series of rehab. Strasburg will take a few days off before testing the arm. His next start would be 9/19. #Nats #NationalsTalk — Chase Hughes (@chasehughesCSN) September 13, 2013     Feel free to follow us on Twitter: @DCSportsKings @meaghannn_ Related Articles: Desmond autographs baby, has great night at plate Cubs trade David DeJesus to Nationals for PTBNL- Bernadina released

Nationals' Stephen Strasburg scratched from Friday's start with forearm discomfort

The Washington Nationals have scratched Stephen Strasburg from Friday's start against the Philadelphia Phillies with forearm discomfort. The news comes out of nowhere as the Nats had given no indication Strasburg's start was even in doubt prior to Friday afternoon. The issue is reportedly with Strasburg's forearm, but in the soft tissue rather than the ligament. James...

Stephen Strasburg Out With Arm Injury; Nationals Slim Playoff Hopes Look Bleaker

The Washington Nationals are 5.5 games out of the second wild card playoff spot, and have been streaking. The Nats have won six in a row and eight out of their last nine games. Despite that push, they have gained little ground, because the Cincinnati Reds have won seven of...

Kendrick's Struggle Continues; Phils Drop Season Series to Nationals

With a win tonight, the Washington Nationals would have locked up a winning record against the Philliesfor the 2013 season. Nationals' rally falls short in 5-4 loss to Phils

The Washington Nationals watched their winning streak end in deflating fashion Saturday night. Now the question is whether or not they can recover and stay in the wild-card race. The Nationals rallied from a 5-1 deficit and had the tying run on base in each of the final three innings, but lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 5-4. Washington fell 5 1/2 games behind the Reds (winners...

Ex-Gators C Brian Jeroloman recovering after collision

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- In the play-by-play account of the game, the most famous play in the career of former Gators catcher Brian Jeroloman reads like this: Jamie Johnson reaches on a fielder's choice, fielded by second baseman Rich Hague. Brandon Douglas scores. Jerolomon is not even mentioned. If you have seen the play -- based on recent YouTube statistics Johnson's grounder...

Braves Fans Don’t Look Back

Atlanta Braves fans have smirked and laughed all season at the cocky Washington Nationals’ problems.  The Nationals were the odds on favorite to win the National League East, but struggled to stay above .500 most of the season. Wait until next year for the Nationals, right? Well, not exactly.  The Nationals have won seven in a row and 18 of their last 22 games, to climb within...

Phillies hold off Nationals for 5-4 win

It's not every day a manager intentionally puts the potential winning run on base in the ninth inning against a red-hot offense. Philadelphia rookie manager Ryne Sandberg did just that Saturday night against the Washington Nationals and went home a winner. Reliever Jonathan Papelbon retired Wilson Ramos on hard grounder to short and the Phillies held on for a 5-4 win over the...

First Pitch: When Washington Shut Down Strasburg and How it Relates to Cole

Last night I wrote about the state of the rotation leading into the playoffs. My playoff rotation would include Francisco Liriano, A.J. Burnett, Charlie Morton, and Wandy Rodriguez. When I mentioned Gerrit Cole, I noted that he’s been great lately, but that my main issue with him is innings. I also said that the Pirates might want to use Cole as a reliever if they have four other...
