TEAMS: Los Angeles Angels, Washington Nationals
As expected, the Washington Nationals have lost their premier lefty out of the bullpen, Sean Burnett. Brunett signed a two year deal, with a club option for third year, with the Angels. Burnett has been a solid main stay in the Nats bullpen since being acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirate via trade in 2009.
The Nationals are still seeking relief help and could land significant help if they trade 1B/OF Mike Morse. Trading Morse would be contingent on resigning 1B Adam LaRoche. The Nats are in current negotiations with LaRoche. With the trade two weeks ago with Minnesota that brought CF Denard Span to Washington, the Nationals would not keep both Morse and resign LaRoche. The outfield appears set with Jayson Werth, Span, and Bryce Harper. Morse could possibly net significant bullpen help.

Angels moving on without Greinke
NASHVILLE Jerry Dipoto will never say never, because an opportunity might arise or Angels owner Arte Moreno might hand him the equivalent of a blank check to pursue a player like he did with Albert Pujols last winter.
But based on the general manager's actions over the past 10 days and his comments as he left the winter meetings Thursday, it is clear that pitcher Zack Greinke...
Making sense of Angels' pitching deals
It's difficult to like what the Los Angeles Angels have done this offseason, particularly when they seem likely to lose free-agent right-hander Zack Greinke.
I wrote recently about the different approaches of the two L.A. teams . But the Angels' starting-pitching choices may not be as illogical as they appear.
I'm not saying I like them, mind you -- right-hander Tommy...
What's next for the post-Greinke Angels?
Well that was an exciting yet ultimately disappointing Winter Meetings, wasn't it? Sure the Angels made a few moves and more or less locked in their roster for the season, but they kind of forgot to bring in that one big piece that was going to make it all worthwhile, that would be a Mr. Zack Greinke.
Maybe I'm being presumptive, but with the money and roster spot they...
Nats get hammered in Rule V Draft
Given the success the Washington Nationals have had in building their minor league system over the past six years, the Nationals were a popular target for the Rule V Draft today. The National lost 4 prospects in the Rule V Draft and did not make any selections.
The following Nats prospects are gone via the draft.

Ever Wonder What It Would Be Like If Bryce Harper Pitched?
One of the first things Bryce Harper showed us as a Major Leaguer this year was his unbelievable cannon from the outfield. It was a tool that was so powerful that the team had to work hard just to get him to not overuse it and learn the value of the cutoff man. Descision making aside, anytime Harper rears back to throw, fans get excited. As a result, I'm sure than just a handful...
Nationals officially announce Haren signing
The Washington Nationals officially announced the signing of free-agent pitcher Dan Haren to a one-year, $13 million contract on Friday. Haren, 32, joins a Nationals starting rotation that includes Stephen Strasburg, Jordan Zimmermann, Gio Gonzalez and Ross Detwiler. Haren was 12-13 with a 4.33 ERA for the Angels this past season, although he missed playing time with back and...
Angels sign Sean Burnett
The Angels continue to revamp their bullpen as they have now signed left hander Sean Burnett to a two-year $8mm deal, Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com reports. The deal also includes an option for a third year.
Burnett will pair up with Scott Downs and form a very solid lefty duo for the Angels bullpen. The Angels also have right handers Ryan Madson and Ernesto Frieri in the back end bullpen...
Reliever signings: Sean Burnett, Randy Choate
The ill-advised "mutli-year contracts to relievers" train continued to roll along on Wednesday, with the Angels signing Sean Burnett (last of the Nationals) to a two-year, $8 million deal and the Cardinals signing Randy Choate (last of the Dodgers) to a three-year, $7.5 million deal.
Both of these relievers owe Brandon League and Jonathan Broxton a fistbump for setting...
Washington Nationals Top 15 Prospects (2012-13)
The Washington Nationals system has been weakened by trades and promotions in recent years but the organization still has some interesting prospects in the system. With that said, the depth in the upper levels of the system took a big hit during the Rule 5 draft when prospects Jeff Kobernus (6th overall) and Daniel Rosenbaum (8th) were selected from the system. It was a curious move...
