DC Double Play:
Washington Nationals starter Tom Gorzelanny was given a 6-2 lead early in Saturday night’s contest against the Dodgers, but he and the bullpen let that advantage slip away. Los Angeles evened the series against the Nats by taking the second game of the series by a 7-6 score. Ryan Mattheus took the loss after allowing a walk-off double to Rafael Furcal in the bottom of the 9th.
Washington was off to the races against Dodgers starter Ted Lilly, scoring six runs in the first three innings of the game. Michael Morse and Jayson Werth crushed doubles deep into the outfield, driving in one and two runs respectively in the first inning. Rick Ankiel had a two-run double of his own in the 3rd and Ian Desmond capped the scoring with an infield single that brought Ankiel home. Usually, scoring six runs is good enough to win a baseball game, but not on this night.
