Boston Red Sox
Daniel Nava (pictured) ripped a bases-clearing double in the bottom of the 4th inning, and Daniel Bard threw 5 reasonably strong innings as the Red Sox shaved the Detroit Tigers 6-3 at Fenway Park. Bard pitched one out into the 6th inning in recording his 5th win of the season. He allowed 2 runs on a pair of solo home runs by Jhonny Peralta and Prince Fielder. He struck out 4 and walked 2. More importantly, he showed much better velocity, registering 95 a few times on the Fenway Park radar gun.Alfredo Aceves earned his 12th save of the season. The Daniel Nava story keeps having new chapters written. With the Sox leading 1-0 in the bottom of the 4th, he laced a bases-loaded 100mph fastball by Tigers starter Justin Verlander into the leftfield corner scoring all 3 runs to put Boston ahead 4-0. This from a player who wasn't even on the team's 40-man roster when the team reported to spring training.NOTES - Dustin Pedroia was out of the lineup with a sore thumb. Red Sox man...
BEST OF MAXIM
When you've had the kind of fringe Major League career that Daniel Nava has had thus far, it might be tempting to dwell on the sustained success he's had while the Red Sox' presumed starting outfielders work their way back from injury. With a .432 on base percentage through his first 20 games filling in for his bigger-name teammates, Nava probably deserves a chance to...
Daniel Nava was in just his second game atop the Red Sox lineup, and the career minor leaguer was forced to leadoff the game against the reigning AL MVP and Cy Young award winner. Justin Verlander made quick work of Nava the first time through the order, inducing the outfielder into a slow-rolling ground out to third base. But after working a walk his next time at the dish, Nava...
Justin Verlander has looked like the best pitcher in baseball for a few years now. This season, the flame-throwing right-hander appears to be confusing hitters even more than usual. The confusion began on Opening Day when verlander threw eight scoreless innings in a 3-2 win against the Red Sox. The reigning AL MVP and Cy Young award winner has continued his dominance since, but Verlander...
Another day, another lineup configuration. Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine has been forced to move some parts around this season, and he made a major change again on Monday, planting Daniel Nava atop the Boston order. Nava has played well since his arrival to the big club this season, hitting .286, and more importantly, getting on base at an impressive .448 clip. Mike Aviles, who...
Justin Verlander is a no-hit pitcher. But he's also a no-hit hitter. It's like he's pitching to himself almost. In his career during interleague play, Verlander is 0-for-20 with 13 strikeouts and his seven other outs weren't exactly results of bad luck.
But Verlander is trying to change that. It's no secret around Detroit that he desperately wants to get his first...

Red Sox (24-24)
Pitching: Daniel Bard (4-5, 4.69)
Pitching: Justin Verlander (5-2, 2.15)
Injuries are everywhere in the sports landscape on Wednesday, but it seems that a couple of Boston teams have been hit especially hard. The Red Sox and Celtics are both soldiering on without a key member or two, but the Sox seem to have found an antidote to their Jacoby Ellsbury-less outfield in the form of Daniel Nava. Now, if only the Celtics could do the same and figure out how...
BOSTON -- Daniel Nava hit a three-run double, and the Boston Red Sox pounded Detroit ace Justin Verlander to move above .500 for the first time this season, beating the Tigers 6-3 Tuesday night. It was the 13th win in 18 games for the steadily climbing Red Sox (25-24), who remain last in the AL East but are just 3 1/2 games out of first place. Prince Fielder had a solo homer...
The Sox had another chance to finally get over 500, however they would have to go through Justin Verlander to do it. And they would have to do it without Dustin Pedroia who was out of the lineup. Daniel Bard took the mound for the Sox and with one of his best outings of the year, the Sox did just that. Verlander didn't have his best stuff and the Sox bats took advantage...
8 a.m. ET: After squandering their last four chances to go above .500, the Red Sox (24-24) will have another shot against the Tigers (23-25). But it'll be a tough task, considering the Red Sox will go up against 2011 American League MVP and Cy Young award winner Justin Verlander. Through 10 starts, Verlander is 5-2 with a 2.15 ERA and seven strikeouts. The last time the Red Sox...
BOSTON (AP) -- David Ortiz homered and hit two doubles, and the Boston Red Sox moved above .500 for the first time this season, tagging Justin Verlander for 10 hits in a 6-3 win over the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night.
Verlander (5-3) lost his second straight start since taking a no-hitter into the ninth inning against Pittsburgh on May 18. The reigning American League MVP and...
Red Sox Improve to 2 Games above .500!
May 31, 2012- Red Sox have won 3 straight against the Detroit Tigers to improve 26-24 on the young season. The Red Sox have had great contributions from Daniel Nava, David Ortiz, Will Middlebrooks, and Kevin Youkilis. Daniel Nava has provided the Sox with quality lead-off at bats and is setting the table for the rest of the order. He also helped...
Ortiz and Youkilis celebrate after a 3-run double by Daniel Nava. The Boston Red Sox were able to rough up last season's American League Cy Young and MVP winner, Justin Verlander, last night in a 6-3 victory. Daniel Nava hit a bases clearing double in the fourth scoring Kevin Youkilis, David Ortiz, and Scott Posednik that made the score 4-0. Daniel Bard pitched for Boston...
The Red Sox have had injury woes this season, it is no secret. They have six outfielders currently on the disabled list; Ryan Kalish, Carl Crawford, Jason Repko, Jacoby Ellsbury, Cody Ross and Darnell McDonald. Ryan Sweeney was on the seven day concussion DL until a few days ago. The Red Sox have had to [...]
