(Jim Rogash/Getty Images)John Lackey put it succinctly when asked why he is now pitching like an ace. ''I'm healthy,'' he said. Then, to remind us all that he is the same guy who won a clinching World Series game, ''I've been locating the ball pretty good, but it has happened before, you know.'' Lackey hurled eight stellar innings last night, propelling the Red Sox to a 4-1 win over the San Diego Padres. One again, the unlikely offensive hero was Brandon Snyder—one of John Farrell's emergency third base options. Snyder capped a terrific at-bat with a bases-clearing three-run double that set the tone for the game. Jacoby Ellsbury extended his hitting streak to 12, David Ortiz hit his 500th career double and Jose Iglesias got two more hits (now hitting .415). On top of everything, the Sox picked up a full game on the Orioles.

In case you haven't noticed, John Lackey is pitching well

(AP Photo/Elise Amendola) In case someone had been locked in a cave over the past few months, I figured I would fill them in on some stats on John Lackey's recent success on the mound. Most casual fans who haven't payed much attention lately would probably call me a liar, because "John Lackey" and "success" in the same statement sounds outrageous. Yet...

John Lackey Keeps Rolling, Continues to Feel ‘In Sync’ on Mound for Red Sox (Video)

If there are any John Lackey doubters remaining, the big right-hander silenced them once again Tuesday night. Lackey was brilliant for the Red Sox, allowing a run on six hits and a walk over a season-high eight innings against the Padres. Koji Uehara sat San Diego down in order in the ninth, allowing Lackey to pick up his third win in his last four starts. It was the fourth straight...

John Lackey: A view from inside Fenway

John Lackey was outstanding last night and I was fortunate enough to be there at Fenway to witness it. By now, whatever expectations (or fears) I had of Lackey going back to the wildly inconsistent pitcher we signed from the Angels were gone, especially after his 12-strikeout performance last week against the Rockies. What I didn't expect was what he did last night. Last night...

Red Sox-Padres Live: John Lackey Looks to Bully National League West a Second Time As San Diego Visits

8 a.m. ET: John Lackey has been pitching just fine this season without cupcake opponents, but it still must be nice to get two straight starts against the middling National League West. Lackey takes the ball for the Red Sox (50-34) on Tuesday night after putting up some career numbers his last time out at Fenway Park. In his last start, on Wednesday, he went seven innings and struck...

Lackey leads BoSox over Padres 4-1

Brandon Snyder hit a bases-loaded double and John Lackey struck out six over eight strong innings for the Boston Red Sox in a 4-1 win over the slumping San Diego Padres on Tuesday night. Lackey (6-5) scattered six hits and walked just one while moving above .500 for the first time since late in 2011. Lackey has won four straight decisions and appears well-healed from the right biceps...

Recap: Sox win 4-1 behind unlikely heroes

Just like the Red Sox front office drew it up in the offseason, staff ace John Lackey went eight innings and Koji Uehara locked down the save as 3B Brandon Snyder carried the offense in a 4-1 win over San Diego. Lackey was the story. He gave up just one run (a solo homer that barely cleared the Monster) and one walk, yielding six runs across eight innings. His fastball had some...

John Lackey, David Ortiz Among Red Sox Candidates for First-Half MVP (Video)

Sitting 16 games over .500, the Boston Red Sox are receiving significant contributions from players all over their roster, which has translated into early-season success. Between the stellar starting pitching, timely hitting, and sharp defense, the Red Sox seem to be playing great team baseball heading into the All-Star break. WEEI’s Mike Salk and Rob Bradford debated on NESN...

Lackey, Lester And Webster To Face SD Padres

FenwayNation PhotoWith Clay Buchholz still on the shelf (likely until after the All-Star Break), the Red Sox will send John Lackey, Jon Lester and young Allen Webster up against the San Diego Padres starting on Tuesday. After this series, Boston will embark on a long 10-game road trip to Anaheim (3 games), Seattle (4 games) and Oakland (3 games). This will carry them into the break...

Four Real? Another Day, Another Hero. Red Sox vs Padres 7-2-13

I would have laughed out loud if someone wrote that in April, but I am serious about it now....

Padres-Red Sox Preview

Owners of the AL's best record, the Boston Red Sox aren't showing any signs of slowing down. The Red Sox try to stay hot behind John Lackey as they open a three-game set against the visiting San Diego Padres on Tuesday night. Leading the majors with 5.13 runs per game, Boston's 2012 last-place finish in the AL East has long since been forgotten. The Red Sox (50-34)...

While You Were Drinking: Game 84 (SD vs. BOS)

Sometimes things get a little fuzzy after a night in the pub. Here’s a friendly reminder of what you might have missed while you were drinking. The Padres dropped the opener at Fenway Park by a score of 4-1. John Lackey looked like his old self and Robbie Erlin couldn’t quite get the Sox to fish for what he was offering. As the Padres drop to 40-44 they still remain only 2.5...

Game 85: Padres at Red Sox - Sox staying hot at home

Ben Whitehead Contributing Writer Another month of the season has come and gone, but one thing remains the same: The Boston Red Sox are the American League’s best team. At 50-34 over halfway through the season, the Red Sox, who normally heat up during July and August, have a chance to propel themselves into the category of not only postseason bound, but World Series contender...

Game 86: Padres at Red Sox - Lester aiming for third straight W

Ben Whitehead Contributing Writer Can John Lackey pitch every game right now? Would be nice, right? Of course, it would be even nicer if Jon Lester starts pitching like Jon Lester of old, or better yet, the current John Lackey. Lester takes the hill in the second game of this series against the San Diego Padres (40-44), as the Boston Red Sox (51-34) look to take the series. Boston...

3 Stars of the Game: Game 85

Ryan MacLeod Contributing Writer In a game that saw Pedro Ciriaco return to Fenway Park, as a member of the Padres, the Red Sox used a big 4th inning and dominant pitching to down the San Diego Padres. 3 runs in the 4th was enough but the Sox tacked on another in the 6th as an insurance run. The Sox have been dominant against the National League this season and they look to continue...
