The New York Mets and San Francisco Giants made a return to the trade table tonight as the former sent outfielder Angel Pagan out west in exchange for outfielder Andres Torres and relief pitcher Ramon Ramirez. Both Andres Torres and Angel Pagan enjoyed solid 2010 seasons, but failed to reproduce the same success in 2011. At first glance, there really doesn’t seem to be much upside either way. Perhaps when I look a little bit deeper into the trade I’ll find something, but for now the move figures to save a little bit of money (between the two outfielders at least). Ramon Ramirez was a productive reliever this past season striking out 66 batters in 68.2 innings and holding the opposition to a .216 BAA.
These moves won’t grace anybody’s front page news, but it is a solid move for the Mets. At worst, the Pagan and Torres swap is a wash. Torres will cost less money and maybe the change in scenery helps him recapture his power and speed production from 2010. ...

Torres needs a RHB caddy...
This is not a bash Andres Torres post, there seem to be plenty of those going around since the trade. Ramon Ramirez makes the trade a win in my opinion but after watching Pagan defensively last season, an upgrade in center field works for me. Sure Pagan is a better career hitter but how much of his offense is off-set by his horrible play in the field last year.So based on the little...
Andres Torres As An Everyday Centerfielder and Leadoff Hitter Is A Bad Idea
I decided to do some research on Andres Torres last night so I could get a better feel of what kind of player he was and I quickly learned that the Giants were very anxious to move him. Lets see why…
Torres was originally drafted by the Florida Marlins in 1997 but chose to play at Miami Dade College instead. He was drafted by the Detroit Tigers a year later and ended up playing...
How Does Pagan Equal Torres AND Ramirez?
Angel Pagan seems to be equal to Andres Torres. Torres has more power and had a higher value than Pagan in 2011 with a better fielding year. Pagan can steal some bases and was worth more than Torres in 2010 but not 2011. Pagan is also three years younger than Torres. With all those thoughts in mind, a straight up swap doesn't seem absurd and a case can be made for it. But then...
Torres makes Endy a less-likely acquisition
Andy Martino of the Daily News and Adam Rubin of ESPN believe it is now less likely the Mets sign free-agent OF Endy Chavez, since the team just acquired Andres Torres from the Giants.
The Mets reportedly met with the agents for Chavez, Cesar Izturis, and Ronny Cedeno earlier this week in Dallas.
In 83 games for the Rangers in 2011, Chavez hit .301 with a .323 on base percentage...

Mets Trade Angel Pagan To San Francisco
Multiple sources now reporting that the Mets have agreed to trade Angel Pagan to the San Francisco Giants in exchange for center-fielder, Andres Torres, and relief pitcher, Ramon Ramirez.Torres should compete for the center-field spot in spring training, but on the cuff doesn't appear to be a full-time replacement for Pagan, as he is coming of a down year. Furthermore, while...
Giants Deal Torres, Ramirez for Pagan
Early in the week, rumors started heating up that the Giants were trying to move Jeff Keppinger, Andres Torres and reliever Ramon Ramirez.
On Tuesday night, they got two-thirds of the way to making that a reality, as San Francisco dealt Ramirez and Torres to the Mets for outfielder Angel Pagan.
Pagan is younger than Torres, and likely has more offensive upside, though both players...
