Outside the Boxscore:
Just when you thought that you had seen it all, a New York Mets fan from Bethel, Connecticut decided to rip the team from beyond the grave.
Check out this obituary found in the Daily-Courier Observer as Ms. Marylou Belles takes a jab at her favorite team:
Marylou Cunningham Belles, of Bethel, CT died July 13th, 2012, after
giving cancer the finger for 27 years. Since the 13th fell on a Friday,
it was a perfect day for the Stephen King fan she was. She was born in
Malone, NY to the late Ruth and John Cunningham, and graduated from
Potsdam High School in Potsdan, NY. She loved cats, and shared her life
with four rescues from Save a Sato. She was also a lifelong NY Mets fan
though surprisingly, that wasn’t what killed her.

The Mets used 19 players in Monday’s 8-7 win in extra innings over the Giants. The 18th player used was Mike Baxter, who entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the top of the 10th and delivered a key single. Thanks to some strong baserunning by Jason Bay, the hit established runners on the corners with one out. Rob Johnson hit into a fielder’s choice to score the insurance...
After last night's Mets win loss, Mets skipper Terry Collins said he has some bad news, but wasn't going to reveal it until this morning.
Adam Rubin and others have tweeted and reported that there isn't any indication as to what the "bad news" is.
All that being said, I will throw a couple of possibilities out there as to what the "bad news"...
What ever happened to Jason Bay? We have seen flashes of his old self over the past three years, but this is looking more and more like one of the worst signings in New York Mets history. The Mets are basically starting every game with 24 outs when he’s in the lineup, and when you factor in the pitcher, it’s more like 21.
I know a lot of Mets fans questions why they keep...
Mike Baxter has completed his rehab stint and will join the Mets in San Francisco to open up the four-game set with the NL West-leading Giants. Corresponding with the move. Kirk Nieuwenhuis will be sent down to Triple-A Buffalo to make room on the 25-man roster.
Nieuwenhuis was batting .252 with seven homers and 28 RBIs in 91 games this year prior to his demotion. He was mired in...
RA Dickey bounced back with a seven-inning outing against the Arizona Diamondbacks
The Mets won their second game in a series, which at this point in the post-all star break season is a major victory, sad but true. RA Dickey pitched seven strong innings as he returned to his first-half form as the Mets defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday afternoon by the score of 5-1.
The Mets have been reeling since the all-star break and their 2012 chances are as bleak as ever. The trade deadline is just 24 hours away and as expected, the Mets have been fairly silent. Nobody expects the team to make a huge move, which is warranted due to the team’s poor play in the past two weeks. However, one move that does make sense to me is acquiring Denard Span. Hear...
As we approach noon here on the east coast the Mets are I am sure enjoying the cool early morning in San Francisco after a 4 hour 10 inning win last night 8-7. Powered by Scott Hairston. The Mets clutch killer against lefties is about the only thing I am sure the Mets are getting calls on. The Mets don’t need to unload him since the return will be nominal.
Dickey came back strong as the Mets were able to split the four game set with Arizona by a final score of 5-1.
Closing out this four-game set, the Mets looked to their ace, R.A. Dickey, to even up the four game set and get this tanking Mets team turned around.
The offense got Dickey an early cushion as they did for Matt Harvey in his debut Thursday, scoring a pair on back...
The Mets might have been able to move Tim Byrdak to the Redsox who were looking for a lefty. No dice since it looks like Breslow is heading to Fenway. Gaby Sanchez who has had a rough year with some time in the minors for the marlins has been sent to the Pirates.
Cubs and Tigers are working on a deal. No not Dempster, Soriano might be going to the Tigers while the Cubs still working on
PHOENIX - The only knuckleballer in the National League is also its only 14-game winner. Mets right-hander R.A. Dickey gave up one unearned run and four hits in seven innings in a 5-1 victory over Arizona on Sunday, recovering nicely after having a streak of 11 consecutive winning decisions broken by Washington last Tuesday. "I had, surprisingly, a pretty good knuckler from...
PHOENIX (AP) -- D-backs overcome Davis' 3 HRs to beat Mets 6-3
Miguel Montero homered, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs to help the Arizona Diamondbacks overcome Ike Davis' three home runs in a 6-3 win over the skidding New York Mets on Saturday night.
Ian Kennedy pitched into the seventh inning and Gerardo Parra added three hits and two RBIs for third-place Arizona...
SAN FRANCISCO -- Scott Hairston's name was floating in rumors as the days melted away before the trading deadline. But as the days turned to hours, the New York Mets were certainly thrilled to still have the veteran outfielder. Hairston hit two homers, a game-tying shot in the eighth and a go-ahead blast in the 10th, to lift the Mets to a knock-down, drag-out 8-7, 10-inning...
Perhaps a visit from the New York Mets can wake up San Francisco's struggling offense and help the Giants end their current skid.
After being shut out in back-to-back contests, the Giants look to avoid a season-high fifth straight loss by continuing their recent success against the Mets on Monday night.
San Francisco (55-46) opened its current 10-game homestand with two wins...
