Early Sunday morning, the New York Mets top pitching prospect Zack Wheeler and nine others — including Colin McHugh and Darin Gorski — where reassigned to minor league camp. #bbpBox_310740403743776769 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_310740403743776769 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; } #Mets demote 10: Wheeler,Puello, Robles, McHugh, Gorski, Havens, Lagares, Tovar, Germen & Ramirez. about 14 hours ago via EchofonReplyRetweetFavorite @AdamRubinESPN Adam Rubin The decision to have Wheeler start the season in Triple-A should come as no surprise.  Both Terry Collins and Sandy Alderson had made it clear the youngster would not be heading north with the team to start the season.  As Rubin points out in a report to ESPN New York, business factors play a part: “If Wheeler stays in the minors for the first 20 days of this season, he will avoid getting credited with a full year of major league service, delaying his free agency from after the 2018 season until after the 2019 season. Also, the Mets can avoid making Wheeler a “Super 2″ during the 2015-16 offseason — causing an extra year of arbitration eligibility — by ensuring he is not in the top 22 percent of rookies called up this year.” According to the clubs beat-reporters, Wheeler said the following about his reassignment: “I don’t think the injury helped. I really didn’t think about it all that much. My mind-set was coming in and making the team. I only got out there one time. That’s what I’m kind of mad about. I wanted to sort of get out there and prove myself. I hope I’ll be up here soon. That was my goal — to make it out of spring training. I’ve got another goal, to be up here as soon as possible. When I’m ready I’ll be up here. Hopefully that will be sooner than later.” According to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, Wheeler said  the experience spent with the big league club in Port St. Lucie will go a long way, saying: “You know everybody around the locker room and stuff like that, and that definitely helps, so when you get up there, you sort of aren’t just a deer in the headlights,” he said. “But I think it’s helped me being up here, preparing for the season a little bit.” There was, however, some good news surrounding the clubs top pitching prospect.  Wheeler stepped back on the mound Sunday afternoon, throwing his first live BP session since straining his oblique on February, 27th.  According to those on hand, he tossed 27 pitches, hitting between 93-95 MPH, with no signs of discomfort: #bbpBox_310768283550887936 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_310768283550887936 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; } Mets say Zack Wheeler will throw live batting practice, not simulated game. #mets about 12 hours ago via EchofonReplyRetweetFavorite @AdamRubinESPN Adam Rubin #bbpBox_310790325419524097 a { text-decoration:none; color:#1F98C7; }#bbpBox_310790325419524097 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; } Wheeler threw 27 pitches. Acknowledged his timing was off. Hopes to be in game in few days. about 11 hours ago via Twitter for AndroidReplyRetweetFavorite @mikekerwick Mike Kerwick  When can we expect to see Wheeler on a major league mound?  According to Rubin, “One major league executive estimated the cutoff date for the extra year of arbitration eligibility may fall around June 15, so a promotion for Wheeler may be stalled until after that date.“ While doing my best Bart Scott impression, “Can’t Wait!”
