Teixeira, Youkilis set to return Friday

Kevin Youkilis and Mark Teixeira meet the media after their rehab game Wednesday (Photo Credit: Dan Pfeiffer/Examiner.com) When the season began in April, the Yankees’ main focus was to stay afloat until the stars came back. They’ve done more than just tread water. On May 29th, they stand one game out of first place behind the Boston Red Sox, with two sluggers on the verge of...

Rivera throws out first pitch at Citi Field

Prior to the Subway Series game between the New York Yankees and New York Mets, Mariano Rivera threw out the ceremonial first pitch at Citi Field on Tuesday. Mets COO Jeff Wilpon personally asked Rivera if he would throw out the first pitch during a pregame presentation honoring Rivera, hours before the first pitch.

Jeter has boot removed from ankle

Derek Jeter remains out for the Yankees because of his ankle injury, but it looks like he is slowly getting closer to being able to play.

Curtis Granderson gives back to his alma mater, donates $5M for new stadium

Granderson is all smiles after his donationCredit: Roberta Dupuis-Devlin/UIC Photo As if Curtis Granderson needed anything more on his resume of being known as one of the “good guys” of baseball, he padded it anyway.  Probably doesn’t even care if he gets publicity.  The New York Yankees outfielder donated $5M to the University of Illinois – Chicago to upgrade their stadium...

Yankees’ Kevin Youkilis could begin rehab Wednesday

Another injured New York Yankee is on the mend. Third baseman Kevin Youkilis has played in extended Spring Training games in Tampa, FL, but NBC Sports’ Drew Silva reports that Youkilis could begin a rehab assignment as early as Wednesday, May 29. According to Silva, Yankees’ manager Joe Girardi said that Youkilis will play another extended spring game on Memorial...

Mariano Rivera blows save without getting an out for first time in his career

Do you know how awesome Mariano Rivera is? He’s so great that one of his worst outings ever is an opportunity to praise him. On Tuesday night at Citi Field, Rivera blew a save without recording an out for the first time in his career. Rivera is 43 years old and has been pitching since [...]

Brett Gardner Robs Daniel Murphy of Extra-Base Hit for Second Night in Row With Catch at Wall (Video)

Daniel Murphy may have the best batting average on the New York Mets’ roster right now, but the Yankees have his kryptonite in their center field. New York’s Brett Gardner has put together two highlight-reel catches in his last two games. Both were against the Mets, both were in the sixth inning, and both robbed Murphy of hits that would have gone for extra bases. (Then again...

New York Mets win leads to the most shocking stats of Rivera’s career

We were not only shocked to see the New York Mets defeat the New York Yankees with Mariano Rivera on the mound, but in the way that they did. The Yankees managed to score the lone run of the game heading into the bottom of the ninth, and held a 1-0 lead. Rivera, who was perfect on the year in save opportunities, just one year after tearing his ACL, gave up three straight hits and...

Mariano Rivera Blows Save in Subway Series Match-up

In the final season of his storied career, New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera has pitched one of his best seasons to date. However, Tuesday night’s match-up against crosstown rival New York Mets would serve as the first major setback for the future hall of famer this season. With a 1-0 lead heading into the ninth inning, Rivera entered the game and surrendered a ground rule...

Watching the New York Mets Beat Mariano Rivera

I’m not a fan of the increased inter-league play happening throughout the 2013 season. However, I’ve always enjoyed watching the New York Mets and New York Yankees face each other in the Subway Series. This match-up is one I look for each year when the schedule is released. Despite the Mets owning an all-time record of 38-54 against the Bronx Bombers, it’s still exciting to...

Series Preview: New York Yankees

Series Preview This year, for the first time ever, the Mets and Yankees will be playing a four-game series with two games in Queens and two in the Bronx. After complaints from fans and new changes to the schedule this year, Bud Selig was forced to shorten these marquee interleague rivalries from six games to four. That’s probably a good thing for the Mets considering how good the...

One Thing We No Longer Have To Fear

I used to worry that this scrappy, clutch, grinding group of misfits ( plus Cano ) would keep winning until the rich, regulars returned. Now, we don't have that worry. As the Yankees have started to regularly score only 1-2 runs per game, it becomes obvious that they aren't going to win much that way.  We are spiraling from the lead back into the pack.  And don't discount...

In "Rivalry Week," Boston gets Philadelphia?

We take on the Mets, who have only one reason left to live - beating the Yankees. And Boston plays... Philly? That's their rivalry? Why... because of Papebon? Did I miss something?
