The good news for Fernando Rodney is that teams remember his 2012 season. That will likely earn him a chance to close for a Major League team, or at least compete for the closer’s gig. The bad news for Rodney is that teams also remember his 2013 season, when he was a mess at times and would sometimes go three hitters without throwing a strike. He may not walk into a closer’s role, but the team that gives him a chance might end up being a contender that is looking to add depth. How about a team like the New York Yankees? Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe notes just such a possibility: There’s a feeling that a team like the Yankees may pluck Rodney, or someone of his ilk, to ensure they have another closer in case Dave Robertson breaks down or isn’t up to the task.”

Mark Teixeira is in for a huge letdown...

Please nobody tell me who won the #SuperBowl. I recorded it and am looking forward to watching what I expect will be a very close game. — Mark Teixeira (@teixeiramark25) February 3, 2014 Maybe someone should tell him to watch the first play and just fast forward through the rest so he doesn't waste his time.  Who DVR's the Super Bowl anyways?  I'm just impressed...

Jeter Hits the Field and is Ready to Go

Raise your hand if you doubt Derek Jeter’s ability to be ready for the 2014 season; for the few of you silly enough to actually raise your hand, put it down. There are a lot better things to do than bet against Derek Jeter. Jeter took the field on Monday for his first batting practice since last year, and also fielded some balls at short stop. His prognosis? “Everything...

Is New York the Team to Beat in the AL East?

It’s only the first day of February, but everybody wants the October question: who will win the American League East? Barring a turnaround for the Toronto Blue Jays, there are four teams that can make legitimate cases for being the favorites. So, $500 million later, are the Yankees the team to beat in the East? The biggest thing working in their favor is Jacoby Ellsbury...

SB Comes to NY; Who Ya Got, Yankees Fans?

The Yankees have dominated sports headlines in New York in recent months; between forgettable seasons from the Jets and Giants, and a dreadful start for the Knicks, the Yankees have gathered all the headlines with their cavalcade of offseason moves. But today, the headlines shift. Even the most staunch baseball fans know that today is all about football. And with the...

New York Yankees Must Trade For Emilio Bonifacio

In a move to make room for signing Bruce Chen, the Kansas City Royals designated utilityman Emilio Bonifacio for assignment. He was a part of the mega deal last off-season between the Marlins and Blue Jays and was acquired for nothing back in August by KC who needed help at the second base position. The Yankees must strike quickly and pick him up. Why you ask? Well first of all...

Mariners in talks with free agent Nelson Cruz; they also eye Rodney

The Mariners, who've already landed the big free-agent fish in star second baseman Robinson Cano, are now in talks with free-agent outfielder Nelson Cruz while also eying closer Fernando Rodney. There's a belief Seattle is amenable to a multiyear deal for Cruz, perhaps two years, with maybe an option or possibly even a guaranteed third year. There's been a lot of speculation...

Derek Jeter takes BP and fields grounders at shortstop for first time this year

Coming off an injury-plagued 2013 season, Derek Jeter is going to command attention with pretty much every move that he makes this spring. Today was no different, as the Associated Press reports that he took live batting practice on the field and fielded grounders from shortstop for the first time this year. Jeter took 39 swings over five rounds of batting practice and fielded 34...

Last year, the Yankee farm system ranked Number 10. So what did it mean?

The prospect ratings are in, and the Yankees are generally ranked in the bottom third of farm systems. But what about last year?

Yankees: Super Bowl is over…. do you know what that means?

First off, my apologies my lack of writing but I have been sick with the flu the last few days and am still not close to 100%. Seattle (Photo credits: www.roadtrafficsigns.com) My weekend’s goal was to muster up enough energy to watch Super Bowl XLVIII, which turned out to be as exciting as watching paint dry. The Seahawks played a great game, but Peyton Manning and his Denver...
