PLAYERS: CC Sabathia
TEAMS: New York Yankees
As the 2013 season heads toward August, the New York Yankees still have a pulse. And if you haven’t followed them you may not believe it, but their plucky – if wilting – success has been in spite of ace C.C. Sabathia, not because of him. This has been an all-too-familiar scene for C.C. Sabathia in 2013. In a season where the Yankees have needed Sabathia at his best, he has been decidedly his worst. He has failed to spark winning streaks, faltered at halting losing streaks and routinely left Everest-like deficits in the path of an offensively-starved team. It frustrates his teammates, his manager and his fans, but no one more than himself. After a 5-inning, 7-run debacle against the Rays on Friday night, Sabathia called his pitching embarrassing. For the first time in his career, he had surrendered 7 runs or more in three consecutive starts. Sabathia has never been prone to such prolonged runs of impotence. Historically, in innings where he has run into trouble, he has always stiffen...

  • What ever has gone wrong he had better fix it fast because he is fast becoming a flat spot like Phil Hughes in the Yankees rotation. If he can return to form the Yankees can move forward with a rotation of him, Kuroda, Pettite and Pineda when he returns. Nova has shown he has learned to pitch not just throw. Hughes needs to be traded or used in long relief again.

Alex Rodriguez, lawyer prepping to appeal suspension from MLB

Major League Baseball is waiting on Alex Rodriguez and his lawyer to know if they will accept a deal that will suspend the Yankee star player for the rest of the 2013 season, and all of 2014, according to the New York Daily News. If Rodriguez and his representatives reject a deal, A-Rods suspension could be announced as early as late Monday or Tuesday. According to a [...]

The Dugout: Braun & A-Rod are probably totally innocent

(via Getty Image)If you like baseball, perhaps you’ve heard the story of Ryan Braun — a nice Jewish boy who was accidentally accused of steroids and suspended before the people in charge realized he was a total sweetheart and couldn’t have done anything wrong — and Alex Rodriguez, a hard-working everyman who pulled himself up by the bootstraps and became one of the best players...

Cashman to A-Rod: “Go right ahead” with filing a grievance

There is no doubt that Brian Cashman has had his fill with Alex Rodriguez. The New York Yankes GM never wanted to sign him the enormous deal, and would love to see the Yanks move on completely from him. Unfortunately, that is not likely to happen, barring a lifetime ban from baseball due to A-Rod’s involvement in the Biogenesis scandal. Until that happens, which it may never come...

Report: MLB Seeking to Suspend Alex Rodriguez Under Collective Bargaining Agreement, Not Drug Policy

NEW YORK — Major League Baseball may try to suspend Alex Rodriguez under its collective bargaining agreement instead of its drug rules, which would eliminate any chance of delaying a penalty until after the case goes to an arbitrator, The Associated Press has learned. Rodriguez has never been disciplined for a drug offense, and a first offender under baseball’s Joint Drug Agreement...

Yankees' Alex Rodriguez should be ready for simulated game Thursday

Whether you believe the conspiracy theories or not, Alex Rodriguez is still going through the normal rehab protocols a player with a quadriceps injury would.  He is taking grounders at the team's spring training complex, and he is hitting in the batting cages.  Soon, he could start playing games again. Adam Berry of MLB.com says Rodriguez should be ready for a simulated...

Annoying fan videobombs friend's camera time during Soriano introduction

A Yankees fan with a homemade sign welcoming back Alfonso Soriano —after a 10-year leave — had his big moment on the Jumbotron video-bombed by his annoying pal. There was a nice welcome during the left fielder's intro before his first at-bat wearing pinstripes after his trade back to Yankee Stadium.  Picked out of the crowd by the TV booth was the guy holding the simple...

Late Yankees owner Ruppert inducted into Hall

Former New York Yankees owner Jacob Ruppert has been inducted posthumously into the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. The ceremony took place Sunday. Ruppert, who died in 1939, was elected by the 16-member Pre-Integration Era Committee. Anne Vernon, a great grandniece of Ruppert, accepted the award for the family. Ruppert purchased the Yankees prior to the 1915 season...

Report: Yankees GM Brian Cashman was Overruled by Owners on Alfonso Soriano Trade

According to a report by Brian Kotloff of Sports Illustrated via Joel Sherman of the New York Post, New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman, was told to go ahead with the trade for Chicago Cubs outfielder Alfonso Soriano, although he was against it. Cashman would not directly confirm what he advised Hal Steinbrenner, but told The Post: “I would say we are in a desperate...

The media has made me feel sorry for Alex Rodriguez

Alex Rodriguez is one of the most scorned athletes in the media today. There is a palpable amount of hatred towards A-Rod from the media, fans, and hell, even Yankees executives. And yet, the reasons for all of the disdain towards Rodriguez are petty at best. Yet, that doesn't stop media members from taking snipes at Rodriguez whenever his name pops up, despite the fact that...

Report: MLB still targeting A-Rod

Major League Baseball may try to suspend Alex Rodriguez under its collective bargaining agreement instead of its drug rules, which would eliminate any chance of delaying a penalty until after the case goes to an arbitrator, The Associated Press has learned. Rodriguez has never been disciplined for a drug offense, and a first offender under baseball's Joint Drug Agreement is...

Derek Jeter homers on first pitch in return

Derek Jeter had no doubts he was ready to return and one pitch into his second comeback of the season he showed it. The Yankees captain homered in his first at-bat Sunday staking New York to a 1-0 lead in the first inning as they try to avoid a sweep to the first-place Tampa Bay Rays. Jeter who started at shortstop and was batting second Sunday stepped to the plate to the familiar...

Derek Jeter Makes Triumphant Return in Yankees 6-5 Win Over Rays

Derek Jeter returned to the Yankees’ lineup on Sunday, and made sure he wouldn’t have to test his quadriceps strain right away. He homered on the first pitch he saw from Tampa Bay Rays lefty Matt Moore. Jeter approached the plate to a standing ovation in his first at-bat of the game. Moore served up a 92 mph fastball and Jeter drove the ball over the right-center field wall in...

Alex Rodriguez Is Dead. He Just Doesn't Know It Yet.

Pout All You Like Perhaps the only thing that both the PED haters and the fans of the individual players, affected teams or just those who want the world to move on from all of this can agree on is this... the waiting for MLB's inevitable strike against the Biogensis suspects is, well, ridiculous and off-putting. Some teams, like the Tigers with Jhonny Peralta, the A's with...

Report: MLB Suspensions in Biogenesis Case Likey to be Announced This Week

It looks like Major League Baseball is ready to drop the hammer on the rest of the players involved in the Biogenesis scandal sometime this week, according to a report by The New York Post. MLB is also set to announce a lengthy suspension for Alex Rodriguez, according to The Post. “It always has been MLB’s plan to announce the suspensions at one time for the 15-plus players believed...
