The Reds picked up a new catcher, Konrad Schmidt, to take place of Miguel Olivo who asked for and was granted his release. Schmidt had been with Texas earlier this spring but signed with the Reds on Sunday. He hit .214/.214/.500 with Texas this spring in 14 at bats. The 28-year-old had spent the last two season in AAA where he has hit .282/.336/.432 while throwing out 27% of attempted base stealers. He also has two separate stints in the Majors, but only a total of 17 trips to the plate. The Reds sent two pitchers to minor league camp. Lefty Wilkin De La Rosa and righty Clay Hensley were sent out to minor league camp. De La Rosa had a whole bunch of strikeouts (15) and a whole bunch of walks (9) to go with his high ERA (9.31) in 9.2 innings. Hensley posted a 4.50 ERA with a bunch of strikeouts (15) and a few walks (2) in 12 innings. Both guys will likely be in Louisville working out of the bullpen.
