Let's be frank--Jason Davis pitched himself out of the rotation tonight. He was absoultely terrible. That's the bad news. The good news is--unlike a month or so ago when it was nearly impossible to pitch one's self out of the Pirates rotation--now a guy who came in with a 1.80 ERA is likely gone (since Gorzo and Ohlendorf are both throwing well in Triple-A). Shows you what Huntington has already done to this club's pitching depth.-Davis had a clean first, but gave up two in the second, keyed by an RBI single by pitcher Todd Wellemeyer (who was hitting eighth, by the way). A Doumit home run tied things up, but Davis kept at it, giving up a quick double and homer himself. Next inning featured 3 hits, 2 walks, an Adam LaRoche error, and three more runs. 8-2, Cardinals, Davis gone, and the rest of the game was a formality--a very ugly formality in which nobody could hit except Ryan Doumit (triple short of cycle).
