TORONTO (AP) -- Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Jeff Niemann left Saturday's game at Toronto in the fourth inning with tightness in his right arm.
Activated off the 60-day disabled list before the game, Niemann was pitching for the first time since May 14, when he left a start at Toronto with a fractured right leg after being struck by Adam Lind's line drive. He went 2-3 with a 3.88 ERA in seven starts before the injury.
Niemann appeared to be suffering discomfort as he walked around the mound after Rajai Davis flied out to begin the fourth. Manager Joe Maddon and trainer Ron Porterfield came to the mound for a brief chat, and Niemann walked back to the dugout accompanied by Porterfield.
J.P. Howell came on for the Rays, who led the Blue Jays 4-0 at the time.

Rays plan to make statement in September
The Tampa Bay Rays don't need to be reminded that Labor Day is upon them. They already know the time has come to get to work and they don't want to rely on any late-September magic this season to do the job.
The task at hand is a formidable one filled with post-season ramifications a three-game home series starting Monday at 1:10 p.m. against the AL East front-running...
Rays use play at plate to outlast Blue Jays
TORONTO (AP) -- Matt Joyce homered and had three RBIs, Ryan Roberts also connected and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 on Saturday.
For the second straight day, the game ended with the potential tying run thrown out at home plate. This time, Colby Rasmus singled to center off Fernando Rodney, but catcher Jose Molina hauled in a high throw from B.J. Upton and blocked...
Video: Edwin Encarnacion’s 488-ft home run is MLB’s second longest of the season
With just over a month to go in the regular season Edwin Encarnacion is putting the finishing touches on a career year, one that earned him a three-year $27 million contract extension in July. Through 127 games entering today the first baseman/designated hitter was third in the AL in home runs (35), [...]

Villanueva plans to start next year -- in Toronto or elsewhere
Carlos Villanueva has given the Toronto Blue Jays a decision to make. He has come out of the bullpen for the second season in a row to provide help in the rotation. This year, Toronto lost three starters in a span of four games in June. Do the Blue Jays want to use him in the rotation next season? They haven't said. And their decision could determine whether he comes back...
Q&A: Anthony Gose, Blue Jay in Progress
Anthony Gose has seen his big-league career get off to a slow start. The Toronto Blue Jays outfielder has hit just .183/.256/.244 in 92 plate appearances since debuting in mid-July. He promises to get much better as he matures, though. As one of the top prospects in Toronto’s organization, the 22-year-old (as of Aug. 10) left-handed hitter has both a sprinter’s speed and emerging...

12 losses in a row won't knock Romero from rotation
Things just are not improving for Toronto Blue Jays left-hander Ricky Romero. The left-hander, who at one time was 8-1 this season, lost his 12th consecutive decision Sunday when the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Blue Jays 9-4. Romero had pitched well in his previous start, Aug. 28 at Yankee Stadium, going seven innings while taking a 2-1 loss. However, he did not retire a batter in...
