Terry Collins told reporters that Jon Niese’s injury is “nothing severe” and that he should be back in three weeks.
He has been placed on the DL and will have one rehab start after some prescribed rest.
The team is calling it a strain.
Right-hander Greg Burke is expected to rejoin the Mets this weekend in Philly from Triple-A Las Vegas, a source told ESPNNewYork.com.
Burke had been recently demoted to make room for the addition of right-hander Carlos Torres on the major league roster after a clause in his contract forced the Mets to promote him or lose him.
Because Burke has not spent 10 days in the minors, he can only rejoin the Mets if a major league player lands on the DL.
This likely means Jon Niese will be heading to the DL. Niese was removed from the game in the fourth inning last night with what the team reported as “left shoulder discomfort.”
