Jon Niese has been scratched from his start Saturday with what the Mets are calling left shoulder tendinitis. Niese has been feeling discomfort for his past few starts and was very sore after his most recent start, Terry Collins told reporters. He will miss at least one start and is expected to throw a bullpen session next Tuesday. The Mets have no current plan to place Niese on the disabled list and Collin McHugh will start in his place against the Miami Marlins this weekend. I’m no doctor, but if he was feeling sore after his last few starts, why were they still letting him pitch? Niese has already suffered with a neck issue earlier this month and had lower back pain in April. At the time, Niese blamed his poor mechanics for it. “You try to compensate and (then) create a bad habit.” It’s always something…

Leathersich Now Has 48 Ks In 25.1 Innings Pitched

Updated by Joe D. at 10:45 PM Jack Leathersich is freaking unbelievable. He just struck out the side tonight in the ninth inning for Binghamton. His last nine outs have all been Ks and he now has 27 strikeouts in his last 12 innings pitched. For the season, Leathersich has 48 strikeouts in 25.1 innings pitched. Back in January I compared him to Billy Wagner in an interview I did...

Ike Davis is Beginning to Hit

Although the Miami Marlins defeated the New York Mets on Friday night, there was one positive sign for the Amazin’s: Ike Davis is beginning to hit his stride at the plate. Davis was faced with a possible demotion earlier this week when the Mets traveled to Yankee Stadium, but proceeded to have a two-hit night that included a two-run single that knocked Yankees starter David Phelps...

Mets Game Notes: Wright and Murphy Killing It Against Yankees

Game Notes Prior to tonight’s game, the Mets placed infielder Ruben Tejada on the 15-Day Disabled List with a right quad strain and selected the contract of infielder Omar Quintanilla from Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League. Quintanilla will wear #3 and was hitting .333 (42-126) with 26 runs scored, nine doubles, two triples, two home runs and 18 RBI in 47 games for Las...

Hot-Hitting Satin Drives In Four In 7-1 Vegas Win

Las Vegas 7, Reno 1 Josh Satin caught wind of Ike Davis showing signs of life at the plate and decided that he needed to step it up a notch – so he ripped four hits and drove in four runs in this 7-1 Las Vegas victory. On the pitching end of the victory was Carlos Torres, who has honestly turned it up a notch ever since I called him out in the beginning of May. I honestly don...

Dillon Gee turns in his strongest outing of the season, leads Mets over Yankees 3-1

Prior to Thursday night’s contest versus the Yankees, New York Mets manager Terry Collins admitted Dillon Gee‘s rotation spot could be in jeopardy when Zack Wheeler gets his promotion. “I’m not stupid,” Gee told reporters. “I know that many bad outings in a row, you’re probably hanging on by a thread there.” With a Wheeler promotion most likely slated for mid-June...

Niese Expected To Miss Just One Start

Updated Post 6/1 Terry Collins said Jon Niese is expected to miss just one start, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York. Niese’s shoulder is feeling better, Collins said, but the team will know more after he pitches his next bullpen session on Tuesday. He was examined Thursday morning at the Hospital for Special Surgery and an MRI revealed inflammation, but no structural damage...

Mets place Ruben Tejada on DL

New York Mets' shortstop Ruben Tejada has landed on the disabled list due to a strain in his right quadriceps. MLB.com's Anthony DiComo reports that the Mets made the move early on May 30. Tejada strained the muscles chasing down a popup in the Mets' May 29 game with the New York Yankees. Tejada said that he felt a pull during that particular play, but it became even...

New York Mets Want to Make the Yankees Pay--Literally

If there is one thing that rivals often want to make their hated counter-part do it is make them pay. It doesn't matter if they won last time you played or if you did. They are your rival, and just because they are who you think they are (right Dennis Green?) they must pay. During the three game series with the Yankees (May 28-30) that is just what the Mets are planning on...

What Awaits in Miami for the Scorching Mets

The New York Mets (22-29) will look to extend their five-game winning streak this weekend against the Miami Marlins (13-41) as they continue their eight-game road trip. This weekend, the Mets will send Shaun Marcum, Collin McHugh, and Matt Harvey to the mound to do battle against the worst team in the league. So should Mets fans expect an easy ride this weekend? To an extent, yes...

Mets pitcher Collin McHugh makes Twitter joke after sweep of Yankees

Collin McHugh, the young righthander who is scheduled to make his first start of the season for the New York Mets on Saturday, rubbed a little salt into the already wounded New York Yankees after his team took all four games of the Subway Series this weekend. McHugh — who didn't even get to look at a Yankee player from the mound during the unbelievable sweep — did all...

3 Up & 3 Down, The Subway Series Sweep Edition, Yeah Baby!!!

We’re feeling giddy here at 3N3 headquarters… The champagne corks are popping, because yes friends, the New York Mets have swept the New York Yankees in all four games of the Subway Series for the first time ever. Let’s say it again, the Mets SWEEP the Yankees! In all my writing here on MMO, I am nothing if not honest, so I’ll say it up front, I hate the Yankees, and I despise...

Game 53: Mets take the Subway Series

(Photo by Al Bello/Getty Images) New York Mets 3 — New York Yankees 1   Yankees fall in full Subway Series with tonight’s 3-1 loss to the New York Mets.   The Yankees turned to Vidal Nuno to attempt at taking one of the four against the cross-town rival New York Mets. Usually known for control...

Yankees: Time to put a stop to this Mets

The Mets, yes that other New York team beat the Yankees for the second night in a row by one run. Last night was every Yankee fan’s worst nightmare, Mariano Rivera, ninth inning, 1-0 score, blown save and the Mets win. That is yuck, yikes and gross. Add on this little historic fact about last night, and you might literally barf: Tuesday's 2-1 loss to @Mets marked 1st time in...

Hungover

Can a whole week of good will be undone by one loss? If you're the Mets, yes it can. But for me, I go back and forth on it. On the one hand, losses like this happen all the time in baseball, and they happen to teams that are much better than the current Met incarnation. I remember the Mets going on a 9-1 road trip in 2006 and then coming back to Shea and losing twice...
