On July 18 it was announced that Trot Nixon under went hernia surgery and it was believed that the recovery process would essentially end his season. It might be that Nixon is Omar's ace in the hole and why he hasn't been pressed to obtain an outfielder. When both Alou and Church went down, Nixon was the player they wanted to fill-in for them and then become a part of the bench. I know some have scoffed at his age (34 y/o) and batting average this year which makes some believe he's washed up. But he brings many intangibles to the table and I'm hoping the injury is what caused his batting average to plummet.Nixon is a true outfielder that might have lost some range over the years but he understands proper positioning and the trajectory of the ball. He has also learned to play first base and eventually Delgado will need days off. I know Evans played a game at 1B but I have to believe they're attempted to avoid using both youngsters, Murphy and Evans on the infiel...
