Found October 16, 2013 on The Outside Corner:
The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the St Louis Cardinals 6-4 in Game 5 of the NLCS, cutting the Cardinals lead to 3-2 and sending the series back to St Louis. The Dodgers led this one from the bottom of the third inning on, adding to their lead with solo home runs in the third, fifth, seventh, and eighth innings. But things got a little dicey in the ninth for Kenley Jansen, who allowed two runs to score and the go-ahead run to come to the plate. But Jansen struck out Adron Chambers, his third punch out of the ninth, to preserve the win and ensure the series continues on. Los Angeles immediately jumped on top in the second, scoring a pair of runs off of Joe Kelly. Adrian Gonzalez led the inning off with a double and after an Andre Ethier fly out, advanced to second on a Yasiel Puig single. Juan Uribe singled in Gonzalez to make it 1-0, and after Puig advanced to third on a foul out, Zack Greinke helped his own cause by driving in the outfielder to make it 2-0. The Cardinals ...

2013 NLCS: Yasiel Puig’s celebrations annoy Carlos Beltran

St. Louis Cardinals ‘ All-Star right fielder Carlos Beltran did not like Yasiel Puig’s high-spirited celebrations during Game 3 of the National League Championship Series. After hitting a long drive into right field in the fourth inning, Puig raised his arms in the batter’s box to watch the flight of the ball, clearly thinking it was going to be a home run. But once he relaized...

Carlos Beltran on Yasiel Puig: He still thinks he’s playing in Cuba

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig stole the show in his team’s Game 3 NLCS win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday night. He deserved the spotlight after delivering an RBI triple to give LA a 2-0 lead in the 4th inning, but it was his reaction to the hit that set the internet […]

WATCH: Yasiel Puig lost a ball in the sun

Some people have been waiting all playoffs for Yasiel Puig to make the kind of error in the field that he made during the regular season. For the most part, the Los Angeles Dodgers fielder has avoided bad plays that made guys like Jon Jay and Evan Gattis headlines. But Puig did miss a ball […]

Yasiel Puig’s hilarious fielding gaff nearly cost the Dodgers Game 5

Yasiel Puig appeared to lose a ninth inning fly ball in the sun during Game 5 in Los Angeles on Wednesday, leading to a hilarious misplay that wound up nearly costing the Dodgers the game. It was 6-2 at the time of Puig’s gaff, but the extra out allowed the Cardinals to trim the score to 6-4 before stranding the tying runs on base in the final inning. Talk about a close call for...

Bryan Cranston was in the crowd at Dodgers/Cardinals game

Is it just me or does Bryan Cranston look a little tense in the screengrab from the TBS telecast of last night’s Dodgers/Cardinals NLCS game? It’s almost as if he’s watching Breaking Bad or something! Sadly, Cranston’s presence at Dodger Stadium didn’t help the team, which fell behind in the series 3-1, making a Red Sox/Cardinals World Series seem like even more of an...

Will Ferrell Announces Dodgers’ Starting Lineup, Introduces Zack Greinke as ‘Today’s Winning Pitcher’ (Video)

The Dodgers are on the brink of elimination, facing the Cardinals in Game 5 in Los Angeles, but they brought out a secret weapon before the do-or-die game — and, no, the rally bear did not make a triumphant return. Will Ferrell graced Dodger Stadium prior to first pitch and announced the Dodgers’ lineup like only Ron Burgundy could. Ferrell has been promoting “Anchorman 2...

Dodgers expect both Hanley Ramirez and Andre Ethier to start Game Six

October is the time of year when even broken bones aren’t going to keep baseball players out of the lineup. Both Andre Ethier and Hanley Ramirez are aiming to be on the field for the Los Angeles Dodgers tonight when they try to avoid elimination for the second time against the St. Louis Cardinals, even though they both have small fractures. According to MLB.com’s Ken Gurnick...

Talking Cardinals NLCS on CBS Sports Radio 920 in St. Louis

Early Wednesday afternoon, with the St. Louis Cardinals on the cusp of returning to the World Series, I was delighted to join co-hosts Rene Knott and Joe Roderick (sitting in for Charlie Marlow) on their daily show, Middle Relief, on CBS Sports Radio 920 in St. Louis. While the primary attention was on the Cardinals’ performance to date against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National...

The Identity Of The Dodgers Rally Bear Is Revealed

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ could have used their “Rally Bear” last night as they lost to the St. Louis Cardinals by the score of 4-2. However their official unofficial mascot was kicked out of Dodgers Stadium after his spirited appearance during Monday’s 3-0 win. On Tuesday the identity of this super mascot was revealed and his name is Mark Monninger. The man behind the bear...

St. Louis Cardinals on brink of creating special memories for new fans

The St. Louis Cardinals have had an incredible amount of success the past three seasons, including a World Series championship and two trips to the National League Championship Series, but they still have a chance to create new, lifelong memories for another set of Cardinals fans with a win Friday or Saturday. The World Series is the pinnacle of the sport. It is every team’s goal...

Tuesday is 25th anniversary of Kirk Gibson's mythic World Series HR

On October 15, 1988, Game One of the World Series was played at Dodger Stadium between the Dodgers and the Oakland Athletics. Kirk Gibson was an unlikely hero that night, and here’s a quick rundown on why. The A’s had nearly a week to rest after sweeping the Red Sox while it took the Dodgers seven full games (including a complete seventh game from pitcher Orel Hershiser) to get...

Who better to pitch today than Joe Kelly? Nobody

LOS ANGELES -- Three quick observations on the Cardinals and the National League Championship Series. THE IDEAL STARTER Joe Kelly has pitched only twice at Dodger Stadium, the Cardinals lost both games and he didn't pitch well. But he's still the ideal guy to start Game 5 of the NL Championship Series this afternoon at Dodger Stadium. Of course, you could say the same...

The Cardinals, The Dodgers, And Depth

Team depth can be defined many different ways: the quality of your fifth starter, the quality of your bench, the contributions from your non-stars. And, looking at the results of the games so far in the National League Championship Series, you might think the Cardinals had superior depth, given home runs by Adron Chambers and shutdown innings by Seth Maness. But if we look at the...
