This week, the Orioles have been riding high in Chicago; however, on Wednesday night it all came to screeching halt. The White Sox earned their first win of the series with an 8-1 drubbing of the Orioles in the Windy City.

There’s not much to be said on part of the Orioles. Endy Chavez plated in a run in the second inning, but the bats were quiet after that.

Jake Peavy – who started for the White Sox, and is 2-0 now on the season – held the Orioles to one run over seven innings, and gave up only four hits.

Sadly for Baltimore, pitcher Tommy Hunter (1-1) got shelled. He took the loss and only went 5 2/3 innings and gave up eight runs – all earned – on nine hits. Ok, a positive -- he struck out eight.

He still lost badly.

Hunter didn’t have it at all. He had two strong starts to begin the season; however, yesterday he just could not get his pitches to be effective and gave up a run in each frame except the first inning.

He was already down 4-1 in the sixth inning before the White Sox put the nail in the coffin on Wednesday.

He gave up an RBI single to Gordon Beckham in the frame, and then exited the game thereafter. Adam Dunn – with the bases loaded – ripped an opposite-field RBI double off Baltimore reliever Troy Patton to raise the score to 8-1.

There would be no comeback for the Orioles at all.

Despite the loss, the Orioles have played extremely well, winning four out of their last six games after a sweep by the rival Yankees.

The two teams will wrap up the series this afternoon.
