With the signing of Gary Sheffield one thing is absolutely sure, the Mets have their very own lightning rod. If Sheffield is a successful member of the team then he will be seen as the edgy veteran who pushed a team that struggles in the clutch over the top. But if this club doesn't live up to expectations, there will be many who point to his signing as the down fall of the season. It's amazing how many opinions and predictions have been voiced in the 48 hours since his signing, it's clear that all eyes are on Sheffield....So far Sheffield has said and done all the right things. Calling David Wright the face of the franchise, crediting him with his signing and reminding us of his uncle Doc were all very good moves. Whether he becomes disgruntled or not, saying he'll take a spot on the bench and only wants to win is exactly what us fans needed to hear.
