The Oakland A's aren't feeling too badly about those deals they made in the offseason.

Tommy Milone, picked up in the Gio Gonzalez trade with the Washington Nationals, is 3-1 with a 2.00 ERA. Ryan Cook, acquired in the Trevor Cahill deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks, is the A's top right-handed set-up man and he has not allowed a run this season.

On Wednesday, the top player from the Cahill deal, right-handed starter Jarrod Parker, made his Oakland debut. Parker turned in a strong outing, allowing seven hits and one run in 6 1/3 innings. He walked one and struck out five.

Parker is now pitching in the fourth spot in Oakland's rotation. He long has been seen as a potential front-line starter, and he was the top prospect in Arizona's stocked minor league system for the past several years.

The key for Parker to remain in the rotation for the short term is to throw strikes; he was left off the Opening Day roster because he walked too many men during the spring.

On Wednesday, Parker threw 62 pitches, and 37 of them were strikes. He was in line for the win in the ninth until closer Grant Balfour blew a save chance for the first time this season, allowing a game-tying homer to Chicago White Sox designated hitter Paul Konerko. The A's bullpen gave up two more runs in the 14th inning, but Oakland rallied with three in the bottom of the inning for a 5-4 win.

As for the other sides of the deals, Cahill lost Wednesday to the Philadelphia Phillies, falling to 1-2 with a 3.70 ERA in four starts. Gonzalez has been superb for Washington, going 2-0 with a 1.52 ERA through four starts.
