The sad thing is Josh Donaldson hit a home run in the 12th on Friday to give the A's the win over the Tigers, but no one is going to care about that. They are just going to talk about this pitch from Detroit's Rick Porcello to Donaldson on Sunday.
There was one thing that happened very early in my baseball career that told me I did not want to play (and wouldn't be any good). I got nailed by a pitch--and it hurt. I played football, and could care less about those hits, but this one really sucked.
I got in the habit of stepping away from the plate after that every time I swung. My coach had to stand behind me and threaten to kick me in the behind if I didn't stop (I did; but I still sucked).
Why am I sharing this story? Because that is what the A's hitting coach may need to do for Josh Donaldson so he can get over his fear of curve balls!
BEST OF MAXIM
Josh Donaldson nearly hurting himself thinking he needed to get out of the way of a Rick Porcello pitch in the 9th inning, only to realize it was a breaking ball and he didn't, was the most embarrassing thing to be captured on tape of anyone wearing A's gear on Sunday. (Yes, way more embarrassing than the young A's fan who threw a foul ball back after his Dad gave it...

A young Oakland A's fan who was handed a foul ball during Sunday's game against the Detroit Tigers shocked nearby fans, including his family, when he immediately throws it back onto the field.
It happened in the top of the eighth inning when Tigers batter Victor Martinez hit a foul ball into the stands behind home plate. A nearby...
Things to notice/know:
1) The crowd is cheering in anticipation of Josh Reddick pieing Josh Donaldson.
2) Thus, Donaldson is bracing for impact in anticipation of it, but does so over the wrong shoulder.
3) Most importantly, in a subtle move, Reddick wipes the hand he touches Donaldson with against that disgusting beard/mouth/face of his.
4) Donaldson then thinks the worst is over...
Aside from the Oakland A’s pitching Sunday and Josh Donaldson wetting himself the funniest thing that happened during Sunday’s game with the Tigers was in the stands. When a foul ball was hit into the stands, a fan caught it and promptly handed it to a dad who was attending the game with his family [...]
MLB News: The Oakland Athletics recalled outfielder Shane Peterson from Triple-A Sacramento to fill the roster spot that opened up while Brandon Moss is on paternity leave. He provides nothing more than depth for the A’s.
Fantasy Ramifications: None.

Quite possibly the worst/best bail of all time.
Mixed-league roto owners, are you looking for a waiver-wire pitcher before Tuesday's full slate of games?
Here's my free-agent choice (citing most 12-team leagues) for one day of fantasy stardom:
A.J. Griffin, Athletics (vs. Astros)
1. For the season, Griffin has a 2-0 record with a 1.93 ERA and 1.07 WHIP.
2. Last year, Griffin surrendered three runs or less for his first...
Jed Lowrie drove in four runs, Tommy Milone won his third straight start and the Oakland Athletics beat the Houston Astros 11-2 on Monday night.
Nate Freiman added a three-run homer and Brandon Moss had three RBIs for the A's. Oakland also benefited from eight walks - four in the first inning by Houston starter Erik Bedard.
Carlos Pena had two hits for the Astros, who have...
Nate Freiman was able to have a moment Monday night that should have been special and unique. In a way, the moment was just that for the Oakland Athletics outfielder, albeit a sad one as well.
Freiman, who grew up in Wellesley, Mass., hit his first major league home run Monday night for the A’s. That came just hours after explosions at the Boston Marathon finish line turned the...
