Photo of Brandon McCarthy after getting hit in the head

Oakland A’s pitcher Brandon McCarthy was involved in one of the scariest plays you’ll see in a baseball game.  McCarthy took a line drive off the bat of Angels shortstop Erick Aybar off his head during the fourth inning of Wednesday’s game.  There was no time for McCarthy to get his glove up to defend himself as he immediately crumpled to the ground in front of the Oakland Coliseum mound.

The sound of the ball hitting McCarthy in the head is probably the worst part of the whole video…only because we have later found out that McCarthy seems to be doing well.  The A’s official Twitter handle said that McCarthy never lost consciousness and was taken to a local hospital merely for precautionary reasons.

Speaking of Twitter, McCarthy is one of the most entertaining athletes out there.  We wish him a quick recovery and a quick return to the Twitterverse.
